About The Position

Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the fiber field operations teams within a geographic area. These area-based teams all perform their duties within the service territory, ensuring the maintenance of fiber infrastructure and the delivery and support of fiber-based equipment, products, and services in alignment with all defined standards operating processes and procedures. The position will work with all cross-functional areas on improving the quality of processes, deliverables, and end-to-end customer experience. Common activities will involve area data identification, collection, analysis, and reporting; along with understanding operational business functions and processes.  Each field operations team is expected to maintain open communication across all areas of the business and work as a unit with consistency while delivering and maintaining services; cognizant of fostering the vision and values of Crown Castle.  This position is accountable for delivering key KPIs for their area of responsibility including but not limited to Opex spend, MTTR, % On-Time Install, and installed enterprise revenue. 

Requirements

  • BS/BA with preference to Civil, Construction, or Electrical, Engineering Degrees or equivalent work experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license required
  • 5 years’ experience of performing: Direct supervision/management of employees
  • Familiarity with installation, testing, and maintenance of telecommunications networks and services including but not limited to: Ethernet - 10/100/1000BaseT networks and hardware WDM networks and hardware SONET networks and hardware Dark Fiber

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of supervisors, construction managers and field technicians for the area’s fiber field operations teams with responsibility for network maintenance 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year
  • Supervise the installation, turn–up, testing and provisioning of WDM and Ethernet equipment in an optical fiber network adhering to engineered design
  • Schedule and prioritize the workload of the field operations resources within an assigned area
  • Manage installation workload to ensure that all customer Firm Order Commitment (FOC) dates and target installation intervals are met
  • Manage and maintain customer communications throughout equipment install and Fiber maintenance processes
  • Maintain installation and spare inventory levels.  Place purchase orders for replenishment as necessary
  • Manage Work Orders assigned to Field Operations and Construction Managers to ensure timely and accurate completion 
  • Work jointly with the leadership from the NOC, Construction, Project Management, Engineering, and Change management teams.
  • Work with and train Field Technicians to use Fiber Optic, SONET, Ethernet and SDH related test equipment including OTDR, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, BER Test Sets, Sniffers 
  • Interface with customers in support of service delivery and assurance
  • Establish, monitor, and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of deliverables and supporting workflows in order to measure operational performance, as well as, identify and assess areas of opportunity for improved process efficiencies and performance
  • Maintain knowledge of technology in use, and/or under development for its impact or potential impact on the operational business process
  • Manage the assigned areas respective CAPEX and OPEX budgets
  • Maintain quality service by understanding and enforcing organization standards
  • Build company image by collaborating with customers and employees, enforcing ethical business practices
  • If applicable, maintain assigned area data for centralized functions such as fleet and inventory
  • Develop and coach direct employees, as well as ensuring similar opportunities throughout the team.  Identify training gaps and create a career path for team members.
