About The Position

The Manager – Facility Management role within Site Support Services is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring Stanford Health Care facilities are safe, compliant, and operationally excellent across a complex and highly visible portfolio. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership over facility operations, vendor performance, and regulatory compliance, while serving as a trusted partner to clinical, administrative, and executive stakeholders. The Manager plays a critical role in translating organizational priorities into reliable building operations that directly support patient care and staff experience. This position is ideal for an experienced facilities leader who can balance people leadership, operational oversight, and customer partnership in a fast-paced health care environment. The Manager – Facility Management leads teams, drives accountability, improves service delivery, and ensures alignment with Stanford Health Care’s C-I-CARE values. It is a high-impact role with strong visibility, meaningful influence, and the opportunity to shape how facilities support the mission today while preparing for future growth. SUMMARY The Manager – Facilities Management oversees the operational activities of their region/area through supervision of Facility Managers. They serve as a point of escalation for the customer for issue resolution and interact with the Director if further direction is needed. The Manager – Facilities Management is also accountable for collaborating with the other Manager- Facilities Management to ensure standardization of activities across the system and advancing Stanford Health Care's strategic objectives. The Manager – Facilities Management is a leadership position responsible for all renovations, maintenance and staff in assigned inpatient facilities on the Palo Alto campus in Palo Alto or ambulatory and administrative facilities. The Manager – Facilities Management acts as a collaborative partner with department directors, managers and staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment is provided to patients, their families, visitors and staff. Facilitates and coordinates interdepartmental work efforts and facility related events that have operational impact. Develops, supports, communicates and helps enforce all environment of care, safety/engineering/facility standards. Manages capital and expense budgets; assures adherence to regulatory requirements; develops and tracks quality indicators; sets immediate and long-term facility operational and financial goals and develops metrics to track performance. Responsible for communicating facility related news and updates to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Job requires a Bachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Relevant experience in lieu of degree may be considered. Relevant experience in lieu of degree is in addition to the experience requirements for this position.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in related position, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of regulations, procedures or technical reference materials relating to building maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Supervises activities of staff through active daily management; staff meetings; 1-1's; conducts annual performance evaluations to include goal setting; recommends hire-fire of staff to Director. Advances staff development by on-the-job training and supporting time off for approved and applicable coursework.
  • Monitors staff workload via established metrics; makes recommendations to Director. Maintains healthy, safe work environment through education, training, visibility of unsafe practices, etc.
  • Develops and tracks long term financial and operational plans consistent with Stanford Health Care (SHC)/department strategy and goals. Develops and ensures adherence to appropriate metrics. Develop and oversee adherence to all budgets.
  • Has financial management oversight of cost centers for region for cost control managed through metrics. Drives cost efficiency improvement initiatives for their region through operational management of the Facility Managers.
  • Manages all aspects of the region/area including but not limited to day-to-day operations, coordination of Planning Design and Construction activities on site, fire/life safety compliance and correction of noted deficiencies.
  • Overall responsibility for the condition and functionality of a facility. Develops and implements policies and practices consistent with safety and engineering standards. Responsible for compliance with applicable regulations, laws and codes.
  • Manages quality delivery of service levels for the region by internal and external vendors through established metrics. Tracks Facilities Condition Assessment information as generated by the Project Management Office (PMO) for regionally based multi-year planning in partnership with Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) Chief for recommendations to Director; ties back to facility management site inspections for appropriate planning
  • Develops and monitors optimal plans for use of all facility systems and equipment. Develops long term plans for replacement and upgrades.
  • Has oversight of Landlord-Property Manager relationship for the purposes of escalation to Director of issues as needed; reads leases for general familiarity with terms and conditions.
  • Acts as point of escalation in managing emergencies and other urgent issues. On a rotating basis, participates is weekend duty officer program
  • Negotiates and implements contracts for services.
  • Interfaces effectively with all levels of internal stakeholders, from C-suite to front line staff.
  • This position may require on-call availability during non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet business needs and respond to emergencies as necessary.
