About The Position

The Excess Sales Manager serves as Tyson’s enterprise subject matter expert (SME) for excess inventory sales across Retail and Foodservice channels. This role is accountable for the pricing strategy, outlet guardrails, and governance required to protect brand and product integrity while maximizing revenue recovery on approximately $27MM in annual excess sales. All activity is managed within Tyson-approved outlet parameters and shelf-life requirements. Operating as an individual contributor, the Excess Sales Manager partners cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Sales Strategy & Planning (SS&P), Business Units, FSQA, and Commercial Sales to resolve complex, time-sensitive inventory challenges and to develop scalable, standardized excess management practices. The role evaluates inventory positions, monitors market dynamics, and develops pricing strategies that optimize profitability while balancing internal business priorities. Success in this role requires advanced customer relationship management skills, strong marketplace intuition, and the ability to navigate complex or ambiguous situations to drive revenue outcomes or ensure timely product donations when applicable. In addition to leading pricing and execution within the secondary market, this role is responsible for developing new business opportunities with industrial market customers. This includes building and maintaining a qualified pipeline through targeted cold outreach, creating tailored value propositions (including product specifications, shelf-life considerations, pricing structures, and operational feasibility), and converting prospects into recurring customers. As part of the Commercial Operations team, the Excess Sales Manager may also support sales teams by assisting with customer documentation and compliance requirements. This includes consulting with appropriate internal stakeholders to gather and submit required materials through customer document management systems or portals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CPG sales experience required, preferably in protein-based products.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Supply Chain functions related to production, transportation, and warehousing.
  • Expert oral and written communication skills.
  • Expert-level Excel proficiency.
  • Intermediate financial acumen, including pricing logic and profitability analysis.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Expert capability in overcoming objections and navigating complex customer discussions.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with cross-functional teams.
