Job Function: Environmental Health, Safety (EH&S) and Facilities Services (FS) Job Sub Function: Multi-Family EHS & Facilities Services Job Category: People Leader All Job Posting Locations: Wilson, North Carolina, United States of America Job Description: Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Manager Environmental Health & Safety to join our Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization located in Wilson, North Carolina. Position Summary: The employee is acquainted with the annual company and division goals and is aware of how he/she can influence these through his/her performance. This function is supporting the EH&S organization for J&J Innovative Medicine’s New Drug Product plant in alignment with the overall BioNC EHS Strategy for the campus reporting to the BioNC campus Sr. EHS Manager. This consists of deploying, leading, and implementing EH&S strategies, policies, plans and procedures. Key outcome is ensuring the EH&S team has taken all needed EH&S precautions to assure continuous, EH&S reliable & compliant supply chain, research & development activities, and is continuously improving in the field of EH&S. Results are achieved through effective leadership of the New Drug Product EH&S team and through effective collaboration and influencing key leadership teams on the New Drug Product Site Leadership Team as well as with J&J Enterprise EH&S. All work plan requirements are to be balanced with global and local context. The ability to represent the BioNC EH&S team when meeting with governmental inspectors. Essential Job Duties: Lead, develop, implement, follow-through with the EH&S New drug product plant US expansion, managing EH&S program & team from design, construction, commissioning and running the new plant, ‘setting up for success’ in the delivery of project EH&S objectives. Lead, develop, implement, follow-through the EH&S strategy & tactics , policies, and procedures for the New Drug product based upon both Global and Local EH&S strategy. Lead the team of EH&S professionals for the New Drug Product to ensure the attainment of the enterprise and local EH&S goals. Build effective collaboration and partnership with the different customers within the organization and influence plant functional teams to get alignment. Monitor, analyze key EH&S performance indicators for the New Drug Product and reset direction where needed. EH&S Leadership development: Be engaged in performance and potential evaluation of New Drug Product EH&S professionals. Challenge/ support/ engage in development plan of New Drug Product EH&S professionals. Support direct reports with Global Process Owner responsibility to fulfill their role. Coach the site EH&S program leads under the BioNC EH&S IOSS structure. EH&S support for the New Drug product site: leading, developing, and implementing the EH&S program in alignment with the BioNC EHS structure. Key outcome is ensuring the site has taken all needed EH&S precautions to assure continuous, EH&S reliable & compliant manufacturing, & growth, and is continuously improving in the field of EH&S. Build effective collaboration and partnership with the different customers within the BioNC campus. Support Sustainability for New Drug product site as a key deliverable of the BioNC campus. Essential Job Responsibilities To act as EH&S Lead on US Expansion Drug Product Core Team in the early stages of project lifecycles to ensure EH&S structures and processes are put in place support delivery of project objectives. Ensuring and strongly influencing a project culture based on J&J Safe Habits is developed and maintained that puts safety as key deliverable in its measuring of project ‘success’. Supporting all aspects of projects not limited to Contractor management, HAZOP, EHS by Design, Machine Safety Risk Assessments (WRAPS), JSA’s, and all other regulatory and J&J compliance requirements. Building and maintaining an EH&S network to support US Expansion Drug Product Teams in understanding and delivering on J&J compliance and safety expectations. This role is intended to ensure that EH&S structures, and lessons learnt from BioNC Drug Substance Project are fully incorporated as baseline delivery for the New Drug Product facility. Support the Johnson & Johnson New drug product plant in integrating into the BioNC culture of safety. Develop technical and business acumen of EH&S staff through coaching and individual development plans. Responsible for working within the BioNC campus EHS management system that drives continuous improvement while sustaining ISO 14001 certification and improving overall EH&S performance. Responsible for providing direction, management and consistent execution and continuous improvement of high-risk/non-routine work programs (i.e., confined space, LOTO, work at heights, electrical safety, machine safety, etc.) and all J&J EH&S program within the BioNC campus EHS structure. Provide technical oversight for Environmental compliance, occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs with the New Drug Product facility within the BioNC campus EHS structure. Facilitate/perform EH&S regulatory compliance assessments and program reviews against the J&J EH&S Standards. Develop and execute corrective action plans to address program gaps and improvement opportunities. Responsible for J&J site metrics and regulatory reporting requirements to ensure that all pertinent documentation is prepared, maintained, and submitted in a timely manner to regulatory agencies, as well as internally in J&J data management systems. Sound working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local EHS laws, as well as J&J EHS Standards. Serve as secondary facility contact for all EHS regulatory agencies such as EPA, NC DEQ, OSHA, etc. Conduct root cause incident investigations, workplace inspections, qualitative/quantitative risk assessments and make recommendations to minimize potential employee exposures and prevent reoccurrence of incidents. Review capital projects to identify potential EH&S impacts and participate in their resolution. Responsible for working within establish BioNC emergency response campus structure.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or another technical field is required.
  • 10+ years of EH&S experience.
  • Knowledge of J&J EHS By Design requirements
  • Knowledge of J&J EH&S Standards
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in building, leading, supervising and maintaining EH&S programs.
  • Knowledge of federal and state EH&S regulations.
  • Strong industrial hygiene, safety, and construction safety background.
  • Classroom and virtual training skills.
  • Experience in identifying, evaluating, and controlling EH&S hazards.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master of Science degree in an EH&S related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of leading teams or direct people management.
  • Certifications such as a Professional Engineer, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist.
  • Laboratory safety, machine safety and contractor safety program implementation.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory issues and provide solutions for remediation.
