About the position
The Engineering Manager for Data & Analytics Engineering at Liberty Mutual Insurance will lead multiple Agile data engineering teams focused on delivering customer-centric data solutions for the USRM Claims business. This role emphasizes servant leadership, collaboration, and the implementation of modern data platforms and tools as part of the company's Data Evolution journey. The manager will work closely with Product Owners and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions drive business value and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage four Agile data engineering squads to support business strategies.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with team members and business partners.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to empower Data Engineers, Analysts, and Scrum Masters.
- Extend and scale Agile practices by partnering with coaches and team members.
- Remove risks, issues, and impediments to overall delivery.
- Manage partner delivery excellence for staff augment/contractor vendors.
- Develop and grow industry and technology expertise related to agency and finance.
- Participate in the development of business and IT vision, strategies, and operating plans.
- Advocate for technical investment features to maintain existing data assets and develop new capabilities.
- Promote data quality, security, and engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a technical or business discipline; Master's preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years in a leadership role with experience leading teams.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing data platforms and tools.
- Strong team building and people management skills in a matrixed organization.
- Experience with data warehousing, data lake, analytics, and reporting technologies such as AWS/Cloud, Snowflake, Informatica.
- Knowledge of Agile engineering practices and tools like Jira and Slack.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and change management skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience leading multiple teams in a high-paced Agile data delivery environment.
- Understanding of Personal Lines Claims business and data.
- Experience with re-platforming or modernization efforts.
