About The Position

The position is responsible for the overall direction of the emergency department, directing all patient care services, including nursing, and ensuring adequate staffing of nursing and ancillary services personnel. The role promotes the philosophy and objectives of nursing practice by managing staff and resources through planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling, evaluating, and directing in designated patient care areas. The position allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, and compassionate nursing care.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in emergency departments.
  • Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in multiple areas of nursing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, diplomatic, and self-motivation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and manages all resources necessary to provide optimal nursing care.
  • Manages staff resources, patient care supplies, and automated patient care systems.
  • Uses innovative recruitment and retention strategies and coaches staff in these behaviors.
  • Establishes relationships with nursing instructors and students.
  • Optimizes the work environment using employee feedback and engagement indices.
  • Maintains productivity through efficient staffing and scheduling patterns.
  • Provides input and direction for orientation and continuing education programs.
  • Coaches staff to identify and achieve their career advancement goals.
  • Evaluates the quality of nursing care using Standards of Practice and patient outcomes.
  • Ensures resources are available for performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develops service strategies and monitors service levels for customer satisfaction.
  • Acts as a liaison between medical and nursing staff.
  • Facilitates evidence-based nursing and integrates evidence into practice.
  • Participates in shared governance councils and supports staff accountability.
  • Achieves care management, patient loyalty, and employee engagement targets.
  • Assists in developing new services and marketing existing programs.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities including hiring, promotions, and evaluations.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets.
