About The Position

EMS Operations & Community Liaison Manager (RN or Paramedic) Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (Mass General Brigham) Position Summary Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is seeking an experienced EMS Operations & Community Liaison Manager to serve as the primary connection between the hospital and regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies. This role is responsible for strengthening partnerships with local EMS providers, supporting pre-hospital care integration, improving patient handoff processes, and ensuring readiness of emergency response systems across the community. The Manager will collaborate closely with Emergency Department leadership, clinical teams, and external EMS organizations to ensure high-quality, coordinated patient care across the continuum. This position also includes ongoing cross-coverage support at Salem Hospital (approximately 10 hours per week), partnering with teams across both locations to enhance EMS collaboration, emergency preparedness, and system integration efforts. Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, or related field required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license (NH or compact) or Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) required
  • BLS (AHA) required
  • 5–7 years of clinical experience in EMS, Emergency Department, or critical care setting required
  • Experience working with EMS agencies, hospital emergency departments, or community EMS programs strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of prehospital care, EMS systems, and emergency medicine workflows
  • Understanding of care delivery across EMS (prehospital) and hospital (ED/RN) environments
  • Ability to build relationships across external EMS agencies and internal clinical teams
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on patient flow and quality improvement
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management, Public Health, EMS Administration, Nursing, or related field preferred
  • ACLS (AHA) preferred
  • PALS preferred
  • Leadership, coordination, or program management experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • EMS Partnership & Community Engagement Serve as the primary hospital liaison to local EMS agencies, fire departments, and paramedic services
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional EMS leaders and providers
  • Represent the hospital in regional EMS councils, committees, and community initiatives
  • Coordinate community EMS programs, outreach, and engagement efforts
  • Prehospital & Emergency Department Integration Improve EMS-to-ED patient handoff workflows, communication, and throughput
  • Collaborate with ED leadership to align prehospital protocols with hospital clinical practices
  • Identify opportunities to enhance patient flow, triage processes, and EMS turnaround times
  • Support integration of community paramedicine and alternative care pathways
  • Emergency Response Readiness & System Coordination Support readiness of emergency response systems through coordination with internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate on emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response protocols
  • Ensure alignment between hospital capabilities and regional emergency response resources
  • Participate in incident command structure (ICS) planning and activation support as needed
  • Clinical Collaboration & Education Provide clinical expertise and guidance on EMS protocols and prehospital care practices
  • Assist with education and training initiatives for local EMS agencies and Emergency Department-based paramedics, ensuring alignment with clinical protocols and best practices
  • Support development and delivery of continuing education, skills training, and protocol updates
  • Facilitate joint training sessions, case reviews, and simulation exercises
  • Quality Improvement & Performance Monitoring Lead EMS-related Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/QI) initiatives
  • Analyze data related to EMS arrivals, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency
  • Conduct case reviews, feedback sessions, and performance improvement planning
  • Ensure compliance with state EMS regulations and hospital standards
  • Leadership & Program Development Support development of strategic EMS initiatives and community programs
  • Collaborate across departments to enhance emergency preparedness and response planning
  • Act as a subject matter expert for EMS systems, prehospital care, and hospital integration
  • Financial & Administrative Responsibilities Assists with the development and management of departmental budgets and financial planning activities
  • Supports financial tracking, resource planning, and cost-effective program operations
  • Assists with inventory and resource coordination as appropriate
