About This Role The Manager, Electrical Engineering provides leadership, technical guidance, and people management within the electrical engineering discipline. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering, overseeing execution across all phases of medical device development, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing team performance while supporting business development. The manager is expected to spend approximately half of their time directly contributing to electrical design work. The Manager plays a critical role in delivering high‑quality engineering outcomes and scaling the capabilities of the electrical engineering function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in software or electrical engineering.
  • 5–8 years of relevant work experience, including 1–2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • In‑depth knowledge of circuit design, digital interfaces, rapid prototyping, simulation, debugging, and automated hardware testing.
  • Good knowledge of the medical device product development process.
  • Knowledge of medical device, diagnostic, and EMC standards.
  • Strong people‑management skills, including coaching, interviewing, performance management, and providing feedback.
  • Experience using Altium and creating standard tools, templates, and processes that leverage Altium’s capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and resources to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Work is typically performed in an office setting; minimal physical demands.
  • Hybrid or onsite work at either Providence or Minneapolis sites with a target of quarterly travel between sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong familiarity with FDA, QSR, and ISO regulations.
  • Experience participating in audits or inspections.
  • Experience supporting business development activities (proposal review, sales calls).

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering activities through all phases of the medical product development process.
  • Ensure compliance with medical device regulations and applicable standards (e.g., FDA, QSR, ISO).
  • Review and execute technical work, providing technical leadership and alignment within the Quality Management System throughout development.
  • Manage staffing, resource allocation, performance management, coaching, and professional development for the electrical engineering team.
  • Coordinate program allocations and priorities; oversee and guide engineering staff on project deliverables.
  • Communicate job expectations, monitor and appraise performance, and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Function as an electrical engineering representative for new program opportunities and collaborate with business development teams to support proposals and client engagements.
  • May serve as the electrical engineering lead on product development programs.
  • Provide input into functional strategy across sites and execute functional strategy within your team.
  • Manage and report on metrics that measure the functional group’s impact.
  • Work with peers to identify and execute improvements in enhancing team capabilities.
