Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging Director(s), provides supervisory and related duties to include, administrative and technical assistance as required for the efficient management of the Diagnostic Imaging department. The Manager of Diagnostic Technology will be competent in communication and relationship-building, have knowledge of the healthcare environment, and demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and business skills. Oversees staff in the operation of imaging equipment, such as ultrasound, x-ray, fluoroscopy, Interventional Radiology, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and DEXA, evaluates accuracy and quality of images, and provides technical assistance. Performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic quality imaging procedures by established standards; maintains equipment performance and monitors quality control. Provides quality Customer Service in a timely and courteous manner and provides teaching and education to personnel to assure that staff have the appropriate knowledge to maintain, operate imaging equipment, and deliver optimum imaging services.

Requirements

  • A graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • ARRT certification in at least 2 modalities.
  • CT State License in Radiologic Technology/Radiography, 3+ years of technologist work experience required.
  • Great communication skills required.
  • RT(R) (ARRT) certification and certification in a second Imaging modality required.
  • Current CT State License in Radiologic Technology/Radiography.
  • General orientation at the time of hire.
  • Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually.
  • Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
  • Walking, standing, sitting, bending required.
  • Must work under the stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands requiring accuracy.
  • Position requires the ability to constantly lift light objects less than 20 lbs., perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, arm-hand steadiness, and hand-eye coordination skills; walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods; see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
  • Position requiresthe ability to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to the concept behind specific ideas and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time, able to communicate verbally, using advanced level vocabulary.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of lead technologist or supervisor experience preferred.
  • Experience and certifications in a third imaging modality is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains 24-Hour accountability for Laboratory Testing
  • Coordinate Staffing on a 24-hour basis appropriate to workload volume.
  • Remains accessible to staff and assures appropriate dissemination of information.
  • Acts as a role model for professional practice by demonstrating proper, flexible and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication and collaboration skills and demonstrates a working knowledge of the various DI Departments.
  • Consistently provides feedback to staff on positive and negative aspects of performance.
  • Performs diagnostic quality imaging procedures by established protocols in order to provide accurate diagnosis.
  • Oversees all technical operations of the department.
  • Responsible for hiring, evaluations and recommends other personnel actions, such as promotions, and disciplinary measures.
  • Supervises assigned personnel according to established policies.
  • Ensures supervisory actions are consistent and equitable.
  • Coaches and counsels personnel on individual work performance.
  • Promotes a team-oriented and service-conscious environment.
  • Provides for an ongoing system of communication for all employees.
  • Orients new personnel to department operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Plans, supervises, and conducts in-service training programs.
  • Routinely completes assigned work on time.
  • Completes STAT requests within defined turnaround times.
  • Ensures section procedures are current, reviewed and approved at least annually by the Medical Director.
  • Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively interacts with personnel and other Lead Technologists to resolve routine issues.
  • Plans and directs work activities to ensure appropriate use of time and capabilities of staff, equipment, supplies and other resources.
  • Prepares work and call schedules for staff members.
  • Establishes work methods, standards, and procedures.
  • Ensures functions of service unit are properly coordinated with other services and departments.
  • Provides input for annual operating budget and capital equipment needs.
  • Maintains the technical quality of images/work produced by the assigned service area.
  • Enforces safety measures.
  • Performs technical duties as an imaging technologist.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of the RIS system (EMR and PACS) to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by meeting all regulatory standards and compliance with accreditation standards pertaining to the service unit(s).
  • Performs additional tasks/assignments/projects to benefit the organization.
  • Implements imaging equipment maintenance procedures, reviews maintenance records per protocol and assists in the evaluation of imaging equipment.
  • Ensures quality of imaging by reviewing quality improvement feedback from the radiologists, recommends and implements corrective action in collaboration with the Medical Director.
  • Provides orientation and education to new personnel.
  • Coordinates purchase of supplies and equipment and makes recommendations concerning department operating budget
  • Promotes and supports staff participation in applying the principle/model of continuous improvement to improve existing processes and enhance the effective use of resources (human and material).
  • Actively participates in the department's performance improvement committee.
  • Ensures all equipment in assigned service unit(s) is maintained in safe and satisfactory working order.
  • Ensures defects or deficiencies are reported and corrected.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of Quality Control activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for section activities.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots technical problems involving imaging equipment.
  • Responsible for acting as the liaison for the department sections assigned for all regulatory inspections.
  • Responsible for assisting the administrative director with budgeting process annually.
