The Manager, Design Operations is a leadership role responsible for the direct management of a cohort of designers and the optimization of the team’s processes, tools, and workflows. The Design Operations Manager ensures designers have the right environment to deliver usable, viable, and feasible solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Product Design or UX roles
  • 1+ years of leadership experience (Team Lead responsibilities, formal mentorship, or management experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or related field preferred
  • Experience managing remote or distributed teams preferred
  • Experience in healthcare technology or enterprise software environments preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with Design Operations (DesignOps) functions, such as resource planning, design system management, or process optimization
  • Expert proficiency in industry-standard tooling (Figma, Jira, etc.) and how to configure them for team scale
  • Familiarity with agile development principles and how design fits into the product development lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of user experience design principles and methods
  • Eye for aesthetic design and customer appeal

Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all HealthStream security policies, procedures, and assigned training.
  • Understanding work objectives initiating from multiple perspectives and levels including the executive level
  • Collaborating with peers in Engineering and Product to advance Design Operations practices and improve cross-functional workflows
  • Serving as the first point of contact for new design projects, performing initial assessment of needs and defining scope to ensure readiness for the design team
  • Acting as a player-coach by contributing to design execution on critical projects, utilizing AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery and model operational efficiency
  • Managing work commitments and resource allocation across multiple teams by understanding underlying business priorities and project timelines
  • Auditing and improving end-to-end design processes to increase team velocity and consistency; update processes and workflows to accommodate changing business needs
  • Leveraging technical experience to evaluate and manage the design technology stack (e.g., Figma, testing tools) and communicate tool needs to the wider organization
  • Overseeing the maintenance, adoption, and organization of design system components and documentation for sharing across the organization
  • Delivering consistent, clear, and timely communication regarding team status and operational health to project stakeholders
  • Recruiting, managing, and developing Product Design staff with varied and complementary skills to support the company’s strategy for its products
  • Standardizing onboarding processes for new design staff to facilitate rapid integration into the team
  • Adhering to all HealthStream security policies, procedures, and assigned training.
