About The Position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Manager, Network Services Support Aux, serves as the subject matter technical expert for critical facilities, data center systems, and critical IT infrastructure. Provides technical oversight and planning, risk management, and emergency management support of all Emory University Office of Information Technology (OIT) critical facilities, data closets, and data center colocations, with focus on Emory managed data centers. Manages ticket audits, performance reviews, and development of Critical Infrastructure Facility Specialist. Collaborates with internal partners to provide design, engineering, and implementation support for security, electrical, generator and environmental issues. Identifies system opportunities and develops corrective actions to improve efficiency and reliability. Plans and implements green data center strategies to reduce the total cost of ownership. Manages equipment installations, cross-connects, electrical requests, relocations, removals and maintenance schedules. Ensures supporting processes are in place and followed. Ensures that resources are available and that all work is completed in accordance with change management procedures. Identifies necessary people, processes, metrics, and technology improvements in pursuit of best-in-class performance, uptime, and reliability. Ensures operational guidelines are followed and all applicable standards are met in telecom-related facilities, including wiring, and data closets. Partners with other Emory work groups to ensure compliance with appropriate audit standards. Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing. Manages and provides oversight for all Emory OIT data center and data closet projects. Performs related responsibilities and all other duties as required.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and five years of work experience with data center operations, cabling (voice, data, copper, fiber), and environmental data center equipment (UPS, generator, PDU, electrical circuits, fire protection) or an equivalent combination of related work experience, education, and training.
  • Candidate should have excellent organizational, customer service, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification preferred.
  • Experience reviewing current and future state IT and data center requirements and determining optimal floor plan, rack layout and densities, and power and cooling designs desirable.
