National Grid is seeking a strategic and experienced Corporate Real Estate Manager to lead and optimise our New York property portfolio. In this key leadership role, you will drive long-term real estate planning and manage all property transactions, including leasing, acquisitions, and dispositions. You will collaborate closely with Operations, National Grid’s Integrated Service Partner, Facilities, Capital Delivery, and other key stakeholders to develop and execute a real estate strategy that aligns with our customers’ needs and the Company’s goals. The successful candidate will have strong leadership experience, expertise in commercial transactions, lease negotiation and administration, and a proven track record of delivering complex real estate projects. You will lead a team responsible for driving real estate transactions and lease administration, fostering an engaging and equitable workplace experience for National Grid’s diverse workforce. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Real Estate, Management or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years’ work experience (experience with leading a team) is required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience negotiating and/or managing commercial leases and the leasing process is required.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience leading a team is required.
  • Actively participating in the implementation of a strategic idea from strategy creation, procuring of a space, development of the facility, and execution of the go live plan is required.
  • A team leader who leads by example.
  • Creative problem-solving solutions challenging the status-quo.
  • Business acumen with the ability to assimilate operational necessities into real estate strategy.
  • Understanding of commercial real estate.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally within the organization; may include influencing, negotiating and presentation abilities.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to manipulate data, evaluate, produce complex reports, and make recommendations based on detailed, complex analysis on assignments of significant scope.
  • Project management experience.
  • Ability to work independently and travel as required; expected to be less than 20% of time.

Responsibilities

  • Create and drive long term strategic corporate real estate planning for National Grid properties
  • Manage overall performance and strategic oversight of operations properties and corporate offices across New York.
  • Manage corporate property transactions, including buying, selling, and leasing of various types of commercial property and complexity.
  • Oversee lease administration efforts with National Grid’s partner, JLL, including a portfolio of leased sites to Long Island Power Authority.
  • Collaborate with National Grid Finance and Capital Planning teams to develop strategic funding plans and evaluate transactions.
  • Engage stakeholders at various levels of the organization, including New York leadership.
  • Develop and deliver business cases to gain leadership support of proposed plans
  • Maintain leadership approval cadence and routine progress updates.
  • Execute transactions with internal and external partners, including legal, environmental, regulatory, survey, and corporate affairs.
  • Create and implement policies and procedures ensuring effective controls and governance.
  • Develop influential alliances with key contacts, initiating appropriate escalations and remediation efforts as necessary.
  • Provide support for regulatory proceedings, including rate cases, on property subject matter
  • Other duties as assigned.
