About The Position

The Controls Hardware Engineer Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring, and supervising the Controls Hardware Engineer team. This role ensures successful design, integration, and delivery of industrial automation hardware solutions across multiple industries. The Manager provides both technical direction and organizational leadership, ensuring compliance with standards, adherence to project budgets/schedules, and continuous improvement of engineering processes. Travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, related discipline, or relevant work experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or related electrical engineering fields.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory, management, or team leadership role.
  • Proven experience with Bosch Rexroth, Rockwell, or Siemens platforms.
  • Expert-level knowledge of industrial controls hardware design, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOM development.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, safety systems, and communication networks.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and/or Eplan.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills; able to work effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Skilled in project estimation, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, commissioning, and field integration practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision to Controls Hardware Engineering Team, including hiring, mentoring, performance reviews, and professional development.
  • Oversee project staffing, workload distribution, and resource planning to ensure efficient execution of engineering deliverables.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, processes, and best practices for hardware design, panel layout, electrical schematics, calculations, and compliance with NEC, UL508A, NFPA, and IEC requirements.
  • Review and approve designs, BOMs, and cost estimates to ensure accuracy, manufacturability, and project profitability.
  • Support project managers in scoping, scheduling, and risk management for automation hardware projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, production, field service, purchasing, and quality) to ensure integrated and successful system solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for technical and project challenges, providing guidance and solutions for complex controls hardware issues.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation within the engineering team.
  • Participate in high-level customer discussions, proposals, and design reviews as a subject matter expert in controls hardware.
  • Drive departmental metrics, including quality, on-time delivery, and budget adherence.
