About The Position

This dynamic role is responsible for all aspects of our Contract Manufacturing operations. The Manager, Contract Manufacturing reports to the Director of Supply Chain and is responsible for delivering Operations Excellence and exceeding expectations by developing and fostering strong strategic partnerships, delivering on cost performance, ensuring supply to customer (OTIF), and supporting innovation and our commitment to food safety and quality excellence. The Senior Contract Manufacturing Manager is a crucial role for the growth of the company and will influence multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver expected results.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering, operations management, business, or relevant degree/experience.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years with experience in the manufacturing lifecycle – from co-packaging, contract manufacturing, innovation (R&D), to production.
  • Must maintain a high standard of personal and corporate integrity and work ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and lead in a high growth environment and manage ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and deploy best practice processes.
  • Strong understanding of weights and measures, conversion factors, freight, and logistics.

  • Experience in contract manufacturing, co-packing facilities, or plant management is a plus.
  • Experience in dealing with highly volatile supply chains, preferably in food production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Contract Manufacturing (CoMan) business unit for Hawaiian Host Group (HHG) with an ownership mindset, including management of the business unit performing vs. budget and on a P&L basis.
  • Ensure all HHG CoMan, Co-Packer, and Co-Processors all fall under the CoMan oversight and management, and that any new CoMan locations and/or products are managed under the HHG CoMan program.
  • Lead, oversee, and supervise all members of the Contract Manufacturing Team, while demonstrating strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills with other cross-functional team members who are engaged around CoMan Operations.
  • Partner with the HHG FSQA team to ensure food safety measures, recall prevention, and excellent quality are all instilled into Contract Manufacturers operations and QA systems.
  • Partner with the Innovation Team on new products to bring forward and execution to start up full production efficiently and to deliver on customer expectations.
  • Assess and bring forward recommendations for resources (direct line, dotted line, consulting) needed to deliver results and growth in Contract Manufacturing.
  • Strategically identify Contract Manufacturing resources to grow capacity and broaden product types and portfolio where this delivers top line and bottom-line results for the business.
  • Lead implementation of contracts in conjunction with upper management and legal that drive compliance to deliver a safe and reliable supply, including but not limited to standard reporting, favorable terms, price stability, capacity, plus developing a strategy for beyond the contract term.
  • Proactively manage Contract Manufacturing execution and planning to support mid-to-high-volume manufacturing.
  • Travel as necessary (up to 30%) to various co-manufacturing facilities to oversee operations, ensure quality standards, conduct audits, and support production initiatives.
  • Ensure the CoMan Team is managing all transactional functions that should dwell within the team functioning as a business unit.
  • Participate in the SIOP process, representing the Contract Manufacturing team.
  • Manage Direct Order fulfillment process and customer commit dates.
  • Risk mitigation, including Excess and Obsolescence management.
  • Development and execution strategic component alternate sourcing plans.
  • Identify and collaborate on Supplier Management initiatives (Material Management, Lead-time reduction, Cost reductions).
  • Identify and implement improvements to the Outsourcing and Contract Manufacturing process that enhance Customer Satisfaction, accelerate Supply Chain ramp to volume, and reduce cost.
  • Negotiate and manage strategic Supply and Service agreements with contract manufacturing.
  • Ensure effective 360-degree communication and cross-functional support for day-to-day issue management.
  • Manage Projects through execution to ensure specifications are established prior to production and all parameters are achieved during the qualification, verification, and commercialization steps.
  • Responsible for creating key performance indicator (KPI) metrics to help streamline tasks and promote efficient productivity for Contract Manufacturing, including monthly performance reporting.
  • Prepare annual budgets for assigned contract manufacturing facilities. Strive to ensure lowest delivered cost whether turnkey vs. tolling arrangements.
  • Maintain and develop positive relationships with management and staff at each facility while ensuring we hold CoMan operators accountable to contract terms and HHG expectations.
  • Review, negotiate and enforce contracts, pricing, analyze sourcing alternatives, and ensure that contract manufacturers are meeting the production needs of current and future product opportunities.
  • Ensure that all documented processes and procedures which standardize, and support company and regulatory information requirements are up to date and continue to streamline efficiency.
  • Support marketing and the innovation team with sourcing new and alternate production facilities for both new and existing products.
  • Responsible for evaluating contract manufacturers qualifications, equipment capabilities and needs, ensuring inventory levels are optimal (i.e., bulk ingredients, packaging, and other materials at contract manufacturer), confirm quality control production requirements are being met, and confirm that both pre-production and post-production and project specific requirements are being adhered to.

  • Prepare metrics, production briefs and de-briefs to communicate target goals and analyze productivity results.

  • Ethically represent the company and be compliant with HHG’s corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Exercise good judgment in problem solving and resolving quality concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned and regular attendance is required for the position.
