About The Position

The Manager of Clinical Documentation is responsible for the strategic planning, organization, and evaluation of the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Program. Key aspects of the role include: Managing key metrics such as Case Mix Index (CMI), Length of Stay (LOS), and Observed versus Expected mortality (O/E) in collaboration with multiple hospital departments, including Case Management and Physician leadership Overseeing Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDSs) in planning, implementing improvements, and re-evaluating processes to maintain engagement and support department goals

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience
  • Current Florida RN License OR ECFMG Registry
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
  • Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) OR Unlicensed physician who has graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as meeting eligibility requirements for its graduates to apply to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for certification and examination at the time of graduation

Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and coach the Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) team, motivating and supporting staff in overcoming barriers to understanding
  • Accountable for CDI program success, including achieving key CDI metrics such as query rates, capture rates, correct principal diagnosis assignment, and Case Mix Index (CMI)
  • Provide strategic oversight of CDSs, fostering a collaborative team environment while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Deliver ongoing feedback to the CDI team, physicians, administration, and CDI leadership
  • Review key CDI metrics (operational, quality, and performance), develop actions to capture identified opportunities, and track program successes and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with CDI and coding leaders to provide in-services and continuing education to CDS staff, physicians, and clinical departments, presenting highly complex information to audiences with varied levels of understanding
  • Work closely with physician champions to resolve provider response issues
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on CDI interpretation and application, taking personal responsibility for professional growth and continuing education to maintain proficiency
  • Provide support for the System CDI Director and physician champions
  • Participate in interviewing, assessment, and selection of new employees
