About The Position

The Manager of Clinical Nutrition assures the highest quality cost-effective nutrition care for all patients across Luminis Health system including inpatients across the continuum of care. The Manager of Clinical Nutrition is responsible for the department’s staff leadership and supports a high level of clinical competence and professional development. The primary functions of this role are program and service development that support the organization’s mission and priorities, directing clinical nutrition staff and allocating department resources, ongoing performance improvement, development, and revision of policies compliant with regulatory standards, and short term and long-term planning and vision for the utilization of registered dietitians and nutrition care to the community served by Luminis Health. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university/graduate degree in nutrition or related field preferred.
  • Graduate degree if RDN credential was earned after January 1, 2024, as required by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Minimum five years’ managerial experience required.
  • Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Licensed Dietitian with the Maryland Department of Health Board of Dietetic Practice
  • There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and leads the provision of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, and patient- centered clinical nutrition care and operations for inpatient nutrition services for the Luminis Health system.
  • Directs the hiring, training, and coaching of full-time, part-time, and contingent part-time clinical nutrition team members for the Luminis Health inpatient units.
  • Serves as a nutrition liaison to interdisciplinary teams system-wide. Represents the department by participating in applicable committee meetings.
  • Develops and maintains clinical nutrition operational policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and administers budget management for effective utilization of available resources, leading to optimal financial outcomes.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the clinical nutrition departments.
  • Responds to internal and external customer service and safety concerns regarding clinical nutrition in a timely manner.
  • Monitors competency, productivity, and documentation in the medical records of the registered dietitians, and create plans for education as needed.
  • Support staff to attain their professional development goals and enhance contributions to the quality outcomes of the patients, which in turn benefits the Luminis Health organization.
  • Lead the development and implementation of protocols to expand clinical nutrition services.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads programs for education and training to improve the clinical skills of Registered Dietitians related to medical nutrition therapy.
  • Participates in staffing analysis to ensure adequate clinical nutrition staffing across the organization in collaboration with the Food Service Director.
  • Develops and implements new nutrition programs and/or services according to the organization’s priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Information Systems team to create up-to-date templates for nutrition assessment, education, and care-planning documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Plans menus with the food service leadership team in compliance with the regulatory, accreditation and dietetic standards taking into consideration patient experience, budget, equipment, nutrient requirements, and staffing abilities.
  • Coordinates the overall functionality, interface, updates, and intra-program compatibility of the Food Service software systems.
  • Analyzes trends in nutrition services, evaluates resource utilization and makes recommendations to organizational administrators.
  • Oversees department quality improvement/performance improvement as well as regulatory compliance with hospital, TJC, CMS and other agencies.
  • Continually surveys strengths, areas for improvement, opportunities, and challenges to optimize nutritional support services. Collaborates with Food Service Director for improvements in patient experience.
  • Facilitates participation in Wellness, Health Promotion, and Nutrition research projects, conferences, and other educational endeavors.
