About The Position

The Clinical Lab Manager manages the human and material resources to deliver laboratory outcomes that represent the philosophy of quality and excellence. This position will have a significant role in the administration or preparation of the departments or the organization's budget.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Management experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and updates work area procedure manuals on an annual basis.
  • Assures completion and presentation of employee performance evaluations on or before due dates.
  • Offers innovative approaches in striving to improve the performance and environment of the work area.
  • Maintains communication with supervisors and subordinates on a scheduled as well as non-scheduled basis.
  • Assures equipment upkeep as well as proper inventory of supplies.
  • Conducts staff meetings regularly for the purpose of information dissemination, problem solving, coordination of activities, and feedback.
  • Assesses laboratory adherence to established turn around time, and reporting times on a monthly basis and as specific problems arise, and takes corrective action as appropriate.
  • Reviews Quality Control for work performed, documents problems as well as corrective action.
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of new equipment and test methodologies for the department.
  • Acts on recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitors ongoing service indicators to identify and correct poor performance and service.
  • Provides initial departmental orientation and job training to confirm staff members' abilities to fulfill job expectations.
  • Motivates staff and fosters an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Reviews and edits employee payroll promptly and accurately.
  • Knows current requirements and standards of all licensing and accreditation agencies and incorporates these into the laboratory operating structure.
  • Prepares and submits applications, surveys, reports, records, forms, and renewal questionnaires which precede inspections as necessary for maintenance and renewal of licensure and/or accreditation.
  • Maintains complete files on all correspondence.
  • Prepares for and assists agency inspectors in conducting all on-site inspections.
  • Coordinates IT tickets generated by the laboratory supervisors with JHS IT department to ensure tickets are completed timely.
  • Demonstrates knowledge with project management to leading lab IT meetings and projects.
  • Takes lead with ensuring all JHS labs complete test validation as outlined in the protocols.
  • Creates validation checklists for all new tests and modification to existing tests Ability to work with different lab middleware systems to lead implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Serves as support liaison to central JHS IT to facilitate completion of lab IT projects.
  • Works with decision support to create performance analytics reports for lab directors and supervisors.
  • Maintains CAP LIS policies and procedures (Medialab).
  • Assists with training new staff in the operation of lab computer systems.
  • Reviews and manages the reference lab interfaces and ensure requests are made timely for modification to existing tests.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
