About The Position

The Manager of Clinical Informatics provides day-to-day leadership for a market or region-based Clinical Informatics team. This role is accountable for supervising, mentoring, and developing team members while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. By driving the implementation, standardization, adoption, and optimization of Epic tools and related third-party applications, the Manager enhances care quality and operational efficiency across UnityPoint Health. Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive clinical experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrating strong knowledge of patient care workflows and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • 3+ years of experience in clinical informatics or healthcare information systems, including support, optimization, and training responsibilities.
  • Previous leadership experience managing teams or projects, with proven ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Clinical and Informatics Expertise: Deep understanding of clinical workflows, patient care processes, and healthcare operations.
  • Proficiency in Epic and related third-party applications, including implementation, optimization, and training.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Standards: Knowledge of HIPAA, CMS, and organizational governance frameworks.
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Competence in data analysis, workflow mapping, and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Proficiency in analyzing budget variances and leveraging financial data for operational improvements.
  • Training and Education: Skilled in designing and delivering effective Epic training and competency validation programs.
  • Educate team members on cost-awareness and resource stewardship within informatics projects.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing Epic training and competency for new employees within the market/region
  • Ensuring consistent workflows
  • Serving as a trusted resource for both Clinical Informatics team members and market/region leaders
  • Budget sign-off and monthly financial monitoring
  • Ensuring fiscal accountability for departmental operations and projects
  • Aligning informatics initiatives with organizational goals to improve patient outcomes and clinician experience
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for market/region-based Clinical Informatics teams.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support team members to foster professional growth.
  • Coach and guide informaticists, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to support career development and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Collaborates with IT to resolve issues promptly and minimize workflow disruptions.
  • Provides oversight of Epic training and competency validation for new employees within the market/region.
  • Drives implementation, standardization, adoption, and optimization of Epic tools and third-party applications.
  • Lead workflow analysis and process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and participate in quality improvement projects to enhancem patient care and clinician experience.
  • Serve as a resource for the market leaders.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to align informatics strategies with clinical and operational objectives.
  • Maintain adherence to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Support consistent documentation standards through proactive rounding, data analysis, and participation in governance decision-making.
  • Ensure informatics processes align with compliance frameworks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain downtime procedures for clinical systems.
  • Coordinate downtime recovery and business continuity planning to minimize disruption to patient care.
  • Oversee departmental budget planning and execution, including sign-off authority for financial allocations.
  • Conduct monthly budget monitoring and variance analysis to ensure fiscal accountability and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with finance and operational leaders to manage expenditures, forecast needs, and support cost-effective decision-making.
