About The Position

Serves as a front line manager of the Non -Invasive Cardiovascular and Interventional Services department which includes the, Vascular and Cardiac Graphics Laboratory, and ECG. Oversees daily operations of the laboratories with budgetary and personnel concerns to perform quality procedures.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) OR Current Radiography License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners AND Current Radiological Technologist certification with American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
  • One (1) year of leadership experience.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in Cardiovascular Allied Health Sciences.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Hearing (aid permitted) – must be able to function without use of lip reading.
  • Visual acuity (corrected) – keen for both distant and near objects/individuals (i.e. ability to read small print)
  • Possesses the interpersonal skills to positively and effectively communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict.
  • Motivation and drive for continuous development of self.
  • Cooperatively interacts with the health care team to support and contribute to the shared group goals

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Non-Invasive Cardiovascular and Interventional services department. Coordinates staffing workload and patient flow to assure appropriate and quality patient care.
  • Assures adequate staffing of all area, coordinating employee work schedules, prioritizing and assigning work to be performed so that patient flow and quality of care are not compromised.
  • Monitors and assesses employee performance on a daily basis. Performs the review of all managed personnel through performance management.
  • Coordinates the selection of personnel, as positions become available, which exhibit the potential to meet optimum standards for performance and patient care.
  • Monitors with the assistance of the Lead Tech to insure adequate inventory levels while remaining within the constraints of the current expense budget allocations.
  • Directly involved in the formulation of the current expense budget advising the Director of any changes in materials cost or projected procedure volumes that may impact the budget in the coming fiscal year.
  • Responsible for the purchasing of approved capital budget request as appropriate for the Non Invasive Cardiovascular and Interventional Services department.
  • Coordinates preventive maintenance calls, repairs, and equipment upgrades as necessary, always advising medical staff of any equipment problems in advance as to not interfere with patient care.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings for employees to provide information on a departmental and hospital wide basis.
  • Attends educational conferences and interacts with associated vendors to acquire knowledge and to keep informed regarding new technology available.
  • Assures the optimum performance of medical imaging and interpretation services in accordance with the service and educational missions of the institution. Identifies device trial opportunities and collaborates with industry professionals for participation
  • Coordinate public forums for education on current trends in Cardiovascular services through collaboration of community relations.
  • Selects, hires, manages, and evaluates the effectiveness of employees on an ongoing basis. Promotes the recruitment and retention of a qualified staff (Technical, Nursing and Support).
  • Performs on-going performance reviews that provide objective, constructive feedback regarding strengths and opportunities for improvement, including developmental plans for each employee. Establishes and maintains a mechanism of co-worker performance review.
  • Evaluates the needs with the departmental Clinical Preceptor and identifies and coordinates on-going continual education for staff. Facilitates the professional development of all staff with the departmental Clinical Preceptor and ensures competence in clinical practice.
  • Coaches and counsels to correct identified performance deficiencies, developing plans which establish goals, provides follow-up and follows established hospital policies.
  • Enforces hospital and departmental policies and ensures that staff are meeting the established standards of practice. Monitors staff satisfaction and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Devises a communication system to keep all personnel informed about the unit and hospital. Has a mechanism in place to provide interaction with all employees on all shifts.
  • Fosters a competent staff through the provision of orientation, in-services, continuing education programs and competency validation programs. Identifies current and anticipates future educational needs & develops plans to meet them.
  • Supports the education of students in nursing, medicine and allied health professions. Assists staff to acquire leadership skills by serving as a role model, resource person and mentor.
  • Provides guidance and direction through identification of, and response to issues.
  • Ensures the appropriate delegation of departmental activities. Supervises delegated activities to assure effective completion.
  • Identifies own learning needs and maintains professional and technical competence. Serves as a clinical role model using current nursing knowledge and accepted practice. Promotes the professional practice of nursing
