About The Position

The Manager, Billing Operations is responsible for designing, implementing, and enforcing billing policies and procedures, streamlining effective billing processes, and leading the billing team to achieve operational excellence. This position is highly visible within the Revenue Cycle department and requires a strong, proactive leader with the ability to take initiative, prioritize, plan, and direct daily operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory and payer requirements. This role does not perform EHR system programming or build but may work individual accounts as needed to support process improvements, validate workflows, and resolve billing issues. The ideal candidate demonstrates critical thinking, problem-solving, and strong analytical skills, with the ability to follow initiatives through to completion while keeping leadership informed on progress, timelines, and resolution status.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management, with a focus on billing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, follow through on projects, and deliver results independently.
  • Proven track record in process improvement, problem-solving, and applying critical thinking to complex operational issues.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop direct reports.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) or willingness to obtain

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business Management, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in medical billing for multiple specialty groups.
  • EMR/EHR system experience.
  • Knowledge of medical coding and third-party payer procedures and practices.
  • Strong customer service skills and professional telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of billing operations projects and initiatives, driving them to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain accountability for timelines, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring follow-through on all assigned tasks.
  • Keep the Director of Revenue Cycle Management and other leadership updated on current status, challenges, and resolution of issues.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to billing team, fostering a positive, productive, and high-performing work environment.
  • Oversee billing and collections processes, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Plan and implement quality assurance measures for all billing processes.
  • Conduct audits of current procedures and processes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyze trends affecting coding, charges, accounts receivable, and collections; provide actionable recommendations.
  • Identify potential revenue opportunities and missed revenue; communicate findings to leadership and division operations.
  • Apply critical thinking and analytical skills to resolve operational and billing challenges effectively.
  • Share ideas and solutions to improve overall billing operations and optimize department performance.
  • Ensure all billing operations comply with State, Federal, and payer guidelines, regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for coding and billing processes.
  • Collaborate with senior management and coordinators to prepare and analyze insurance contracts, financial reports, and accounts receivable metrics.
  • Ensure accurate collection and compilation of statistical and performance reports.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, nursing personnel, and other departmental team.
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing potential billing team members.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and organizational policies.
