About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate’s skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications. This position can be in any FirstEnergy Territory. The Manager of Asset Performance & Analytics oversees the asset monitoring and analytical functions for substation and transmission line assets, ensuring the delivery of actionable insights that guide capital investment, optimize asset lifecycles, and enhance system reliability. This role leads the development and management of the online monitoring program and its supporting team, including evaluation of equipment monitors, execution of pilot installations, and assessment of emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is preferred or a related field is preferred (IT or Business).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience across multiple areas, including engineering, asset management, field operations, maintenance, construction, project management and data analytics.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience is required.
  • Commitment to FirstEnergy's Safety Vision and the Accident Prevention Handbook.
  • Knowledge of utility asset management across substation and transmission line equipment (transformers, breakers, relays, line components, etc).
  • Strong understanding of asset health models, condition monitoring, degradation mechanism and failure modes.
  • Experience with online monitoring technologies and diagnostic tools (DGA, PD, breaker monitors, line sensor data, etc).
  • Ability to interpret I&M data, test results, SCADA trends, and asset performance indicators.
  • Familiarity with analytics platforms, data visualization tools and asset performance systems (APM, GIS, PI, CASCADE etc.)
  • Proficiency in data analytics, statistical analysis, and developing actionable insights form condition/performance datasets.
  • Strong ability to translate complex data into clear, strategic recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, engineers, technicians, analysts, and contractors in a high-performance team environment.
  • Experience working with investment planning, asset strategy, life cycle planning and risk modeling.
  • Experience standing up or managing programs such as online monitoring, condition-based maintenance, and asset health index development
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Federal and industry regulatory and safety standards such as FERC, NERC, NATF and OSHA, as well as industry standards such as ANSI, IEEE, EPRI, NEC, IEC.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to enable effective interaction with both internal and external customers and the ability to communicate results.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills required.
  • Proven ability to make timely, accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using or supporting predictive analytics, advanced analytics, or machine-learning tools for predicting asset failures/repair/replacement forecasts.
  • Familiarity with asset management applications (e.g., APM, PI, PowerBase, Protection Suite, ESRI-GIS, TOA4, Cascade, etc.) preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of information systems such as Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, PowerPivot, Visio, Project).
  • Understanding data warehouse and business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee asset performance monitoring systems for substation and transmission line assets to deliver actionable insights that improve reliability and optimize asset lifecycles.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the online monitoring program and manage the supporting technical team.
  • Evaluate equipment monitoring technologies, support pilot installations, and assess monitor performance to guide broader deployment strategies.
  • Perform data analytics on asset health and condition to identify deteriorating trends, emerging risks and failure modes.
  • Conduct failure analysis and event response to determine root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical tools that provide clear, accurate, and accessible insights for stakeholders.
  • Ensure high standards of data quality, governance, and system integrity for asset performance systems and analytics platforms.
  • Leverage EPRI research, supplemental projects, and industry best practices to advance asset management strategies and analytical capabilities.
  • Expand predictive analytics capabilities to enhance maintenance efficiency and support risk-based investment decisions.
  • Provide asset health risk projections and analytics that inform long-term planning, capital allocation, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams – engineering, operations, planning, compliance, and IT – to align monitoring and analytics efforts with organizational goals.
  • Support the evaluation and integration of advanced monitoring technologies, automation and analytics tools into operational workflows.
  • Serve as the business owner for asset performance and analytics systems, enduring effective system use and capability development.
