About The Position

Position Summary: Responsible for the overall management and general operations of the Arrhythmia Center. Serve as a patient navigator throughout the continuum of care. Collaborates with providers in the provision of optimal implantable cardiac device management that follows all regulatory agency guidelines. Coordinates the maintenance of patient/device interaction through biomedical and psychosocial interventions. The Cardiac Device Nurse (RN) in the Arrhythmia Center are independently accountable for the effective management and coordination of the follow-up care of patients with Cardiac Implantable electronic Devices (CIED) which include pacemakers, ICDs, Impulse Optimizers, and Implantable Loop Recorders. The RN partners with the Electrophysiology (EP) team, Cardiologists, and other clinical staff throughout the Guthrie System to coordinate the care of patients with CIEDs. The RN will coordinate follow-up care for the patient at the clinic close to home, as this position also requires the RN to travel to Regional Guthrie sites making it more convenient for the patients. The Registered Nurse has a strong knowledge base of CIEDs. They help coordinate MRIs for patients with MRI safe devices within Guthrie and at outside facilities. They evaluate current clinical practices of referring providers and staff. They provide education to ensure that research-based, best clinical practice is delivered to our patients. The RNs collaborate with multidisciplinary teams ensuring our patients with CIEDs receive the appropriate care during different procedures or treatments such as surgery, MRIs, or Radiation Therapy. They are responsible for documenting and updating our Paceart database along with the four (4) Remote Clinics for each device company (Merlin.net, Carelink, Latitude, and Biotronik). The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment. Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence ‐ based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific job skills are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards applicable to the specialty.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse in the State of Practice.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS is unit dependent.
  • A minimum of two years’ clinical experience in the field of electrophysiology or cardiology is required.
  • Skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Ability to use independent, critical judgment in all aspects of patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills that convey a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities, urgent responses, and challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, manages, and directs Arrhythmia Center operations within Guthrie Medical Group.
  • Provides leadership and completes administrative/business tasks associated with the Arrhythmia Center.
  • Leads the department in continuous improvement and quality of services.
  • Completes patient assessments and evaluates performance of device function.
  • Demonstrates behaviors and actions that are consistent with Guthrie’s principles and values.
  • Functions as a liaison for the management of patient care with staff, administration, providers, other care organizations, assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements, and evaluates patients' care.
  • Develop updates and coordinate the patients' plan of care to achieve patient goals and to optimize outcomes and transitions across the continuum.
  • Monitors, records, and communication patient condition as appropriate.
  • Performs and maintains the currency of essential competencies as required by a specific area of hire and population served.
  • Independently performs CIED interrogation in the outpatient setting at 7 locations.
  • Independently performs CIED interrogation and device/patient monitoring in the in-patient setting to include MRI, ED, and in-patient units.
  • Performs an independent daily review of remote transmissions (scheduled and alerts) of the devices implanted within patients from the 4 different remote clinics.
  • Problem solves device function, settings, arrhythmia episodes, and interventions.
  • Works closely with the Electrophysiology Team and other multidisciplinary teams, ensuring quality CIED and medical follow-up care.
