Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Applications, the Manager of Application Engineering enables and accelerates the University's mission and goals by delivering efficient and innovative technology solutions. This position manages a team of business analysts and cloud application engineers who are responsible for the analysis, programming and maintenance needs of enterprise applications and identity systems in the cloud. Additionally, the team is responsible for developing and supporting web services-based integrations and integration architectures. As a technical architect and cloud application engineer, this position leads enterprise technical design activities and drives enterprise application cloud adoption. As member of the ITS Leadership team, this position also leads both operational and strategic IT projects.

  • Managing the Application Engineering Team, including interviewing, hiring, training, motivating, evaluating and directing employees.
  • Managing change to LMU enterprise solutions, including the design, implementation, testing and deployment of applications in LMU's cloud data center.
  • Leading the software evaluation of potential enterprise solutions, ensuring technical solutions are innovative and meet the needs of University stakeholders.
  • Building a collaborative and positive environment as part of the leadership team.
  • Leading and assisting with troubleshooting problems and delegating work when appropriate.
  • Providing advanced technical guidance to business analysts, application engineers/programmers and system administrators.
  • Coding, debugging, testing, and deploying software applications.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of systems in supporting the changing needs of the University.
  • Representing LMU within the IT community and at professional organizations or associations.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of LMU enterprise systems and providing expertise to senior LMU leadership.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, Enterprise Applications.
  • Typically a Bachelor of Science/Engineering Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field or equivalent experience in full software lifecycle development.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in information technology; 2 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in technical project and program management.
  • Knowledge of business analysis and business analysis best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in multiple programming languages (.NET, Python, Java, C, C++, etc).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud computing and Platform-as-a-Service tools within AWS.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining identity management software, including Microsoft Identity Manager and Microsoft Entra Suite.
  • Experience using and supporting relational databases (Oracle, MSSQL, etc), data management and ETL tools (Talend, Mulesoft, etc).
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
  • Experience in higher education and/or prior management experience.
  • Azure expertise and AWS certifications.
  • Salary range: $112,200.00 - $151,500.00, commensurate with education and experience.
