About The Position

Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. Job Summary: Directs and monitors personnel in the performance of laboratory duties in order to ensure adequate completion and quality of work in the laboratory. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Five years' technical experience: Preferred
  • One year's leadership experience: Preferred
  • Anatomic Pathology experience in a laboratory: Preferred
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) licensure in the state of practice: Preferred
  • Medical Technologist (MT) certification: Preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises laboratory staff; ensures compliance with policies and guidelines.
  • Oversees with the daily operations including, but not limited to: histology, surgical pathology, cytopathology, transcription, review of daily logs, and monitoring pathology department charges.
  • Performs and oversees autopsies and provides a report on the deceased.
  • Performs gross examinations and dictations on specimens received from surgical and non-surgical cases.
  • Assists in histotechnologist preparation tissue and cytology specimens for diagnostic examination by pathologists.
  • Hires new employees and perform annual reviews of all direct reports.
  • Maintains responsibility for disciplinary action on all direct reports and termination when necessary.
  • Provides in-service training and education on theory and practice; makes recommendations for outside education, training.
  • Maintains an orderly and clean work environment to include tissue waste disposal, rotating and dumping of stains and reagents.
  • Monitors quality assurance of stains; resolving all problems.
  • Monitors conduct and performance of histology personnel, maintaining good rapport with technologists, physicians, and other department personnel.
  • Conducts quality improvement, assurance activities and inspection preparation to meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines.
  • Assures that the Laboratory is in compliance with the standards and requirements of all regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
