About The Position

Form Energy is an American manufacturing and energy technology company focused on revolutionizing energy storage with cost-effective, multi-day technology designed to keep the electric grid secure and reliable. The Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of the innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. The company is currently hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the newly formed Analysis & Mechanical Architecture team in Berkeley, CA. This role involves managing a team of design and analysis engineers and collaborating with cross-functional partners to develop cohesive system architectures.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 7+ years of industry experience
  • Well-developed experience analyzing and designing mechanical systems, assemblies and components for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports
  • Expert knowledge of either thermal analysis (CFD/FEA) or structural analysis (static/dynamic)
  • Strong mechanical design experience across multiple shipping products
  • Hands-on experience in model validation/correlation
  • Experience defining products and engineering requirements, and implementing FMEA principles
  • Experience in batteries, energy storage, or other high power products is a plus
  • Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical architects, thermal engineers, and structural engineers
  • Lead the mechanical architecture, and structural/fluid/thermal analysis and optimization of Form Energy's iron-air battery
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of battery, electrical, chemical, and systems engineers to develop, model, and optimize system designs for performance, cost, and reliability throughout the full development cycle
