Essential Job Duties We’re looking for an AI/ML Engineering Manager to help scale a growing team focused on building AI-powered solutions that enhance how BambooHR operates internally. This is a hands-on, leadership role responsible for translating business needs into pragmatic AI/ML solutions, driving execution across multiple initiatives, and developing a high-performing team of engineers and data scientists. You’ll partner closely with internal stakeholders across departments to deliver impactful, responsible, and scalable AI capabilities. You’ll operate at the intersection of execution, enablement, and influence—helping the team move quickly while building the right foundations for long-term success

Requirements

8+ years of experience in software engineering, data science, or AI/ML
3+ years leading AI/ML projects and managing individual contributors
Experience delivering AI/ML or data-driven systems in production
Ability to define technical approaches from unclear or evolving business requirements
Experience working with cross-functional partners outside of engineering
Working knowledge of modern AI/ML methods (e.g., LLMs, applied ML, data pipelines, evaluation)
Ability to communicate technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Nice To Haves

Experience building AI/ML solutions for internal business operations (e.g., HR, support, finance, GTM, sales, customer experience, etc.)
Familiarity with responsible AI practices (evaluation, monitoring, guardrails)
Experience scaling teams, processes, or platforms in a high-growth environment
Strong systems thinking and ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term sustainability
Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping others navigate it

Responsibilities

Manage and develop a team of AI/ML engineers and data scientists, including coaching, performance management, and hiring
Define and prioritize AI/ML work with internal partners across departments such as HR, Support, Finance, and GTM
Translate business problems into clear technical requirements and execution plans
Drive delivery of AI/ML solutions, including planning, prioritization, and tracking outcomes
Guide the design and implementation of AI/ML systems (e.g., LLM-based applications, predictive models, automation)
Ensure solutions meet defined business requirements, scale appropriately, and integrate with existing systems
Establish and improve processes for model development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
Partner with engineering, data, and platform teams to deploy and maintain solutions in production
Provide clear direction in ambiguous problem spaces so the team can execute successfully
Set expectations for quality, timelines, and accountability across the team
Advise stakeholders on tradeoffs, limitations, and appropriate use of AI/ML
