The AI Governance Manager is a key role within the Enterprise Data & AI Governance Program, responsible for building, executing, and continuously improving the company’s AI governance capabilities. This role leads the operationalization of a comprehensive AI governance framework aligned to corporate policies, objectives, and mission, ensuring that AI systems are deployed responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with applicable regulations. The AI Governance Manager collaborates with enterprise, technology, legal, and business stakeholders to define risk classifications for AI project intake and enables governance roles and responsibilities, maintain governance workflows, and ensure appropriate oversight of AI initiatives. This role also establishes and manages the AI metrics, reporting structures, communication plans, and feedback loops that drive transparency and maturity of the AI program. In addition, the AI Governance Manager is responsible for defining and executing a robust AI model validation framework—ensuring all AI models undergo rigorous performance, fairness, and explainability testing throughout their lifecycle. The role maintains the model risk registry, human in the loop controls, oversees stress testing protocols, and ensures all AI solutions meet ethical, regulatory, and company-defined standards.

  • Establish and operationalize a formal AI governance framework aligned with enterprise policies, mission, and strategic objectives.
  • Define, refine, and oversee AI governance roles, responsibilities, processes, and procedures.
  • Maintain and manage escalation and approval channels for AI use, ensuring proper oversight based on AI risk level.
  • Lead ongoing change management activities to support responsible AI adoption and enterprise AI integration efforts.
  • Manage the AI project intake process, ensuring consistent evaluation, routing, and prioritization of AI initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for business representatives seeking AI guidance, approvals (human in the loop controls), or governance support.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive inventory of AI assets, models, and projects across the enterprise.
  • Continuously collect, assess, and incorporate stakeholder feedback to enhance AI governance practices and program maturity.
  • Review, own, and manage ongoing updates to AI policies, standards, and procedures (PSP).
  • Maintain and execute communication plans to ensure stakeholders are informed of governance changes, risks, updates, and expectations.
  • Define, maintain, and report on metrics, KPIs, and performance indicators that track the progress, risk posture, and operational effectiveness of the AI program.
  • Provide regular reporting to program leadership, risk committees, and executive stakeholders.
  • Support audit and compliance activities by ensuring governance documentation and AI lifecycle artifacts remain complete and up-to-date.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive AI model validation framework that includes performance benchmarks, bias and fairness assessments, explainability requirements, and risk scoring.
  • Conduct rigorous pre-deployment, during-deployment, and post-deployment model testing to evaluate robustness, accuracy, stability, and scalability under real-world operating conditions.
  • Establish and maintain stress testing protocols to evaluate model behavior under extreme scenarios, adversarial conditions, and edge cases.
  • Validate compliance with company ethical AI guidelines, AI governance requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, GDPR, CCPA, Colorado AI Act).
  • Maintain a model risk registry documenting validation results, identified risks, mitigation strategies, and model-specific governance decisions.
  • Partner with Data Science, Engineering, Risk, Privacy, and Legal teams to ensure AI models meet responsible use expectations and regulatory obligations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 6+ years of experience in AI/ML governance, AI program management, model risk management, data governance, or related roles.
  • Experience operationalizing AI governance frameworks, policies, and lifecycle management processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional programs, coordinating stakeholders, and operationalizing complex governance workflows.
  • Strong understanding of responsible/ethical AI principles, emerging regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML development lifecycles, governance mechanisms, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Ability to translate complex AI, governance, and compliance requirements into actionable processes and controls.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, organizational, and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Self-starter comfortable operating in a fast-changing environment and influencing without direct authority.
  • Master’s preferred
  • Experience in AI model validation, fairness/bias testing, explainability techniques, and stress/adversarial testing preferred.
  • Experience with AI governance platforms, risk registers, testing frameworks, or lifecycle management tools preferred.
