About The Position

The position involves close observation and advisement on plant performance, requiring constant monitoring and problem-solving in the field. The role is not intended to replace PCA’s but to provide support and solutions for in-field plant issues across California. The candidate will also be responsible for staying current with professional societies and vendor solutions, sharing relevant information with colleagues, and fostering collaboration within and beyond the organization. Additionally, the role includes designing and maintaining standards for agronomic data collection and interpretation to improve decision-making processes. Field training and prioritizing impactful agronomic trials are also key responsibilities, along with team development and management duties, including budget management and performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Agronomy or related discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years relevant experience in Agronomy or a related field.
  • 5+ years' leadership experience managing a team of 2 or more.
  • PCA or similar certification/license is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license suitable for insurability through company insurance plan.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of farming principles and agronomy, especially berry production and substrate farming.
  • Experience with agricultural software applications and equipment calibration.
  • Knowledge of substrate plant rotation and hibernation.
  • Familiarity with nutrient chemistry and pesticides.

Responsibilities

  • Close study of past performance and relevant data.
  • Constant monitoring of plant performance in-field.
  • Provide on-call advice for in-field plant issues.
  • Stay current with professional/scientific societies and vendor solutions.
  • Share relevant journal articles and product performance standards.
  • Foster scientific exchange and collaboration within and beyond RAC.
  • Document and distribute best practices.
  • Lead and organize educational seminars and discussions.
  • Work with Operations to design and maintain agronomic data standards.
  • Prioritize and monitor field trials with Operations and other partners.
  • Build and develop a committed agronomy team.
  • Establish priorities and provide guidance on activities.
  • Manage department budget and standard management responsibilities.
