About The Position

Plans, supervise, coordinate and manage the activities of all assigned personnel in the Youth Justice Division of the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years’ experience in project management and control of which two (2) years working in a supervisor or managerial capacity in a criminal justice setting; AND
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services, sociology, criminal justice or a closely related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
  • General knowledge of supervision and personnel management practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of activities supervised
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the activities of assigned personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a system of records relevant to section.
  • Ability to issue verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of Juvenile Justice System.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients and engage in public speaking as required.
  • Ability to write meaningful reports, case histories and use a computer.
  • Attendance at meetings and activities on weekends and/or after regular business hours.
  • Obtain certification in Juvenile Justice Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment tool.
  • Participates in and represents Juvenile Court on various committees as directed.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Performs management responsibilities in accordance with policies and procedures, including hiring, training/development, performance appraising, discipline, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develops and assigns tasks while providing direction and support to assigned staff while ensuring staff compliance with established policies and procedures within the division.
  • Collects and analyzes critical program data for change implementation and prepares statistical reports as need
  • Monitors the operation and functionality of the courts case management system within the division as well as manage initiatives, including electronic monitoring responsibilities.
  • Identifies, recommends, and develops plans and/or gaps to the Administrator/Deputy Administrator.
  • Serves as a representative for the division and Juvenile Court.
  • Coordinates with other departments/divisions to meet the Court’s goals and objectives.
  • Performs budgetary and purchasing functions.
  • Reviews and updates the desktop manual.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required or directed.
