About The Position

Under the oversight of the Directors of the Gas Turbine Laboratory (GTL), the Research Manager (RM) exercises administrative and operational responsibility for the GTL and provides research management and oversight for large-scale technical programs; coordinates with research staff and sponsors to ensure timely research productivity and funding and report submission and works with the directors on sponsored program budgets; works closely with the GTL Directors to manage and provide oversight of administrative responsibilities within GTL; successfully collaborates with Aerospace Research Center Administration, Engineering Research Operations, and other University entities involved in GTL business operations to ensure completion of projects and compliance to HR, safety, and other applicable operational policies; supervises assigned staff and oversees their daily routines; leads planning for streamlined GTL operations; assists in preparation of future research visions for GTL; works closely with the GTL Directors in cultivating new collaborative relationships with external stakeholders within the academic research community, industry, and national and state government, in order to bring in new large scale research programs; the RM creates the management plan for the projects; forecasting and managing resources needed to reach objectives in partnership with the project Primary Investigators (PIs); the RM also leads the compilation of research project reports including reporting as mandated by sponsoring agencies; the RM supports planning and execution of meetings, conferences, events, and travel related to assigned research projects; and the RM works with research staff on critical tasks to complete projects on schedule and assists overseeing operation of the test facilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree: Major Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years relevant experience in project management
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Management experience of 2 or more team members
  • Experience seeing turbomachinery projects through full life cycle
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with individuals from varied academic backgrounds at varied job levels
  • Experience with sponsorship work/funding
  • Proven ability to work individually and as part of a complex team to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
