About The Position

Professional Engineer Managers plan, coordinate and oversee projects, programs and consultant contracts/agreements and perform licensed professional engineering functions. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position is located within the Construction Division in Las Vegas. The incumbent will serve as Resident Engineer on major construction projects to ensure that projects are built in accordance with the contract plans, special provisions, Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Standards, and established budgets; prepares and reviews construction cost estimates and schedules; reviews preliminary plans and specifications of construction contracts; inspects construction sites to monitor progress and ensures conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards; resolves design and construction conflicts; meets with contractors and the public; prepares, negotiates, and develops justification for change orders regarding construction revisions; provides engineering advice to assist in solving problems; directs construction staking surveys for proposed construction; estimates costs and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data; uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering documents; supervises construction inspection and acceptance testing staff; and administers construction projects in accordance with established policies and procedures.
