This position serves as the principal wildlife technical expert for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Idaho, located at the Idaho State Office in Boise. The role involves oversight and coordination of wildlife management programs on BLM-managed public lands, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and policies, and serving as a key advisor to management and staff on wildlife habitat management and related activities.

  • Serve as the state's principal wildlife technical expert and point of contact for various offices and agencies.
  • Review plans and recommendations from field offices for compliance with policies and laws such as the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Represent the BLM on interdisciplinary teams and workgroups to develop and revise manuals and policies related to Wildlife Habitat Management.
  • Develop guidance and direction for wildlife management to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Coordinate annual work plans and budgeting efforts, including tracking workload accomplishments and program expenditures.
  • Represent the State Director in technical meetings and conferences regarding resource programs with other organizations.
  • Prepare and communicate program-related information to management regarding status, timelines, and major issues.
  • One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level in wildlife management.
  • Experience providing guidance based on current wildlife management practices.
  • Technical expertise in terrestrial wildlife management.
  • Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience managing a program's budget.
  • Leadership experience in an organization or agency.
  • Experience with the Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Familiarity with federal wildlife management policies and practices.
  • Relocation expenses reimbursement may be available.
