The mammography technologist is responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies and presenting them for diagnosis. Routes are subject to change as the business needs demand. Week - 1 Tues: Morris, MN Wed: Eureka, SD Thurs: Miller, SD Fri: Madison, SD Week - 2 Tues: Bowdle, SD Wed: Redfield, SD Thurs: Faulkton, SD Fri: Waubay, SD (1x every 3 months) Week - 3 Tues: Morris, MN Wed: Britton, SD Thurs: Miller, SD Fri: Madison, SD

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication, detail orientation, time management and organizational skills. Must be able to maintain composure and interact compassionately and effectively with a variety of patients and medical staff.
  • Able to operate sophisticated computer equipment.
  • A strong interest in scientific and technical skills and knowledge
  • Must be able to work well independently with limited direct supervision.
  • General pc proficiently to access job-related internet websites, review on-line documentation and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • ARRT registered, certified to perform mammography procedures under MQSA, BLS and CPR certified, mandatory education, TB; and medical card and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging requests; checking for special instructions; and confirming anticipated service with patients.
  • Gains patient cooperation and trust by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions.
  • Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
  • Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
  • Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; and maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; collecting and processing laundry.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
