About The Position

The Mammography Technologist performs mammography screening, diagnostic evaluations and procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients. This position assists in the training of students and technologists in Mammography. The Technologist maintains optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during the execution of duties, and works closely with patients to ensure they have an understanding of procedures and are comfortable. What to expect: Provide Direct Patient Care Gather information on patients' illnesses and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures. Conducts mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view. Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques. Operate Equipment Position the patient and equipment correctly to produce results with the best quality. Ensures operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories. Keeps mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; collecting and processing laundry. Quality Exam Maintains production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation. Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting. Collaboration Collaborates on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure. Mammographic Procedures Completes all mammography, bone density, breast ultrasound exams, and procedures; identifies optimal images, evaluates and submits for physician review, according to policy and protocol. Patient Records Confirms patient identify and obtains and records patient identification; reviews and updates patient documentation in EMR/PACS. Safety Protocol Practices established safety and quality guidelines (MASA/ARC), and utilizes ALARA radiation reduction tools and techniques.

Requirements

  • Professional/Vocational/Trade Training Radiology
  • 1 year Mammography
  • Radiology/Imaging Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Radiology Technologist License (RADTECH) - State Licensing Board As required by State
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification - . As required by State
  • Mammography (ARRT-M) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) As required by State
