SUMMARY: The R.T.M. is responsible for performing radiographic procedures on patients of every age utilizing techniques to provide quality images for physician interpretation. Maintains ARRT and Mammography credentials as required by federally-mandated MQSA standards.

Requirements

Current ARRT certification, SCRQSA license and Mammography certification required.
Must be able to operate radiographic equipment and produce quality images; follow oral and written instructions; communicate with patients, visitors and employees.

Responsibilities

Reviews medical record for patient history and clinical data for correlation with any previous history. Checking dates of last procedure performed.
Perform routine and complex breast imaging and examination procedures on patients of every age following departmental guidelines. This may include ultrasound imaging of the breast.
Positions patient, explains procedure, and provides patient education.
Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during procedure.
Selects technical factors and imaging mode
Immobilizes patients as necessary
Practices radiation protection
Evaluates images for technical quality and prepares for physician interpretation • Practices aseptic technique and/or universal precautions
Prepares and administers contrast media as applicable to procedure
Assist physicians with stereo-tactic guided procedures
Operates equipment and monitors function of equipment. Recognizes malfunctions and needs for servicing. Takes appropriate steps to report those needs.Assists physician with imaging procedure
Properly cleans equipment after each exam
Assumes responsibility for assigned area.
Demonstrates basic knowledge of life support equipment (crash cart, oxygen, suction, etc.)
Performs clerical duties as required
In the absence of the QC techs, performs mammographic quality control tests in accordance with ACR and FDA.
Completes mammography repeat analysis
Verifies all previous mammography images are available prior to radiologist dictation • Maintains mammography continuing education credits as required by mammography accrediting agency(ies)
