About The Position

The Mammography Technologist position at Stony Brook Radiology requires the technologist to provide excellence in clinical care and quality radiographs for diagnosis. The role involves performing mammographic radiological procedures independently, with limited supervision, and requires creativity and responsibility. The technologist will report to the Assistant Director and will be responsible for various technical procedures, patient care, and maintaining safety standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and graduate of an accredited Radiology program.
  • Licensed in the State of New York in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • ARRT Registration.
  • ARRT Certified in Mammography.
  • Basic Life Certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association or able to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • One year experience in the field of radiology is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed in the State of New York in Contrast Injection.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Mammographic Radiological procedures at a technical level, not requiring constant supervision.
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment and initiative.
  • Assume responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
  • Transfer and position patients, providing immobilization devices as needed.
  • Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Select and operate equipment as directed.
  • Provide protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Process films and perform QA to images.
  • Assist physician in the administration of opaque media.
  • Practice sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Delegate areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures.
  • Act as supervisor in the absence of a supervisor or senior technologist.
  • Assist in performing first aid.
  • Conduct periodic quality control tests.
  • Participate or conduct research in required specialty.
  • Maintain adequate records as directed.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness.
  • Secure and return supplies.
  • Cooperate with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Rotate within the department and other departments as required.
  • Maintain ethical relationships.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
  • Participate in in-service programs and annual recertification training.
