The Mammography Technologist is responsible for validating the physician order, documenting the patient history, positioning, and imaging of patients. The Technologist works closely with the Radiologist and the Mammography team to produce high quality diagnostic images in accordance with the department protocols. The Mammography Technologists assists the Radiologist with the performance of diagnostic and interventional procedures; performs a variety of technical procedures which require independent judgment, with integrity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis.

  • Reviews patient's chart and results from previous mammographic procedures.
  • Greets patient and identifies self by name.
  • Reviews and updates patient's breast health history.
  • Explains the procedure(s) about to be performed to the patient.
  • Reviews physician request for mammographic procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures using complex mammographic equipment.
  • Demonstrates competence in advanced breast imaging techniques.
  • Performs physical breast examinations and documents clinical findings.
  • Monitors patient's condition before and during diagnostic procedures.
  • Provides accurate diagnostic image identification and critiques image quality.
  • Collects all completed diagnostic images for interpretation.
  • Works directly with the radiologist to determine next steps.
  • Provides a thorough and direct patient hand-off to other staff.
  • Provides patient with mammography imaging results.
  • Confidently discusses breast health with patients.
  • Maintains sterilization, isolation, and infection control techniques.
  • Determines appropriate ordering physician and charges for patient encounters.
  • Performs and documents Quality Assurance and Quality Control testing.
  • Monitors quality control on a daily basis.
  • Practices safe radiation techniques.
  • Participates in department meetings and quality assurance programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completion of a JCERT accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
  • Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEC in two year period) and other ARRT requirements.
  • Maintain 15 Continuing Education credits (CEC) in Mammography within a 3-year period.
  • Two years' experience as a Radiologic Technologist is preferred.
  • Registered Radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Registered Mammography Technologist by ARRT or registry-eligible.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
