Requirements

  • Completion of an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, which normally is acquired in a two-year college or technical school program.
  • ARRT Mammography certified with current registration.
  • Radiography license by the Maryland Board of Physicians required.
  • CPR BLS certification required.
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the anatomy of the breast.
  • Proficiency in performing Radiology examination of the breast as acquired in one to two years of directly related experience.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience performing mammography Radiology procedures is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mammographic procedures of a routine and difficult nature under general supervision and in consultation with the Radiologist.
  • Participate in scheduling procedures for the Breast Imaging Center.
  • Perform Diagnostic Mammography Procedures.
  • Verify that proper anatomical structures of the breast are demonstrated for radiologic interpretation.
  • Operate stationary and portable radiographic equipment to perform the procedures.
  • Load cassettes and process images for final analysis.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient.
  • Assist patient on and off of examination table.
  • Ensure patient's privacy, safety, and comfort.
  • Determine proper technical factors such as voltage, current, exposure time, focal distance based on patient size, physical condition and suspected pathology.
