About The Position

The Mammography Technologist at Tidelands Health is responsible for performing digital and 3D mammography procedures, including diagnostic imaging and biopsies, under the supervision of a physician. This role emphasizes patient care, safety, and adherence to federal regulations while ensuring high-quality imaging standards. The technologist will work independently and may also mentor new staff or students.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from a Radiologic Technology program.
  • Minimum one (1) year of Mammography experience preferred.
  • ARRT(M) certified or registry eligible (must become certified within 24 months of hire).
  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association certified required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DEXA imaging
  • Familiarity with federal regulations governing mammography practice

Responsibilities

  • Review orders prior to the day of the procedure to ensure accuracy and avoid delays in patient care.
  • Maintain, generate, and keep organized documentation for all upcoming biopsies and localizations.
  • Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist the radiologist's interpretation.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures by positioning and instructing patients while utilizing protective shielding and supportive devices.
  • Perform and complete procedures as required by physician's orders in the hospital information system.
  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms, wire and wire-free localizations, stereotactic breast biopsies, and DEXA imaging as applicable.
  • Clean and maintain all imaging equipment; select proper exposure factors for each examination.
  • Perform daily and weekly Quality Control tests on radiologist's workstation and mammography equipment.
  • Request, upload, and prepare patients' outside mammograms when necessary for comparison with the radiologist's dictation.
  • Cover all outpatient and hospital locations as necessary and assist with mentoring and/or training students and new hires.
