About The Position

As one primary component of this job, and under the direction of a radiologist, performs screening and diagnostic mammograms at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and a commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a mammography technologist. Another secondary component of this job involves assisting the radiologist in performing interventional breast procedures and breast ultrasound examinations in order to contribute to a diagnosis.

Requirements

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required.
  • Less than 1 year of professional work experience in performing breast screening and diagnostic procedures, preferred.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required.
  • RTM-RT Mammography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required.
  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required or Colorado Provisional Mammography License - Accreditation CDPHE Required.
  • Initial Qualifications Completed - MQSA Mammography Quality Standards Act Required.

  • Knowledge in how to operate digital mammography equipment and related technology.

  • Effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.
  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for screening/diagnostic mammograms as well as interventional breast procedures and breast ultrasound imaging.
  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
  • Ability to consistently produce quality images related to the breast region.

Responsibilities

  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms following appropriate assessment by clinicians.
  • Performs breast ultrasound procedures in a timely manner according to physicians’ order, established protocols, and/or specific radiologist direction.
  • Effectively interacts with Denver Health’s PACS system through compliance with data entry, image post-processing, image archiving tasks, image quality assurance, and other related user interface activities.
  • Assists radiologists during interventional procedures, including breast biopsies and needle localizations.
  • Maintains records of examinations and other pertinent information on patients within Epic.
  • Performs QC/QA processes daily on digital equipment.
  • Assembles order requisition, patient history sheet, and comparison films for radiologists’ review within 30 minutes of completion of exam.
  • Performs duties related to the management of pathology results.
  • Uses Epic to schedule breast diagnostic studies.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on medical supplies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly working environment.
