About The Position

The position is for a part-time Mammography Technologist at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. The role involves operating mammographic equipment, ensuring image quality while minimizing patient dose, and maintaining safety standards. The technologist will be responsible for patient care, including preparing and positioning patients for exams, explaining procedures, and providing comfort and support. The position requires adherence to radiation protection guidelines and involves clerical duties related to patient history and billing. The technologist will work rotating shifts during the first shift, with hours ranging from 6:30 am to 10:00 am, Monday through Friday, and one Saturday shift approximately every two months.

Requirements

  • Completion of ARRT approved Radiologic Technology Program.
  • ARRT Registered or registry eligible.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience performing radiologic procedures with at least 1 year in mammography.
  • Must be licensed by the State to perform mammographic procedures.
  • CPR Certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with various age groups of patients.
  • Proof of specialized training in positioning, compression, and technical factors.
  • Knowledge of American Cancer Society guidelines for screening mammography.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all mammographic equipment and select/modify technical factors as needed.
  • Set equipment for exams to optimize image quality with the lowest possible dose.
  • Check all equipment daily for physical hazards and report malfunctions.
  • Perform job-related problem solving for equipment malfunctions and patient positioning.
  • Control patient positioning and transferring during mammographic examinations.
  • Adhere to radiation protection guidelines set by the State and physicist.
  • Prepare and position patients for exams, ensuring proper collimation and shielding.
  • Perform specialized techniques using magnification and compression equipment.
  • Document patient history and obtain consent indicating the patient is not pregnant.
  • Bill patient exams accurately and assist in emergency care procedures.
