Performs a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

  • Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient (to include all exams within job scope.).
  • Works to continually develop skill sets and become competent in ALL exams within job scope defined by leadership.
  • Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
  • Positions and compresses the patient accurately for procedure and fully images all breast tissue.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.
  • Evaluates images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression and absence of image artifact. Assures proper patient identification appears on every image.
  • Educates patient regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.
  • Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.
  • Performs a full range of mammographic imaging quality control tests in accordance with the manufacturer and documents them in the Mammography Quality Control Track module.
  • Displays imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies, Mammography, State and Federal Regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Maintains clean, neat and well stocked procedure area.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals and sterile trays and devices for invasive mammographic procedures.
  • Maintains MQSA compliance.
  • Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology PA: No state license is required WV: Radiography License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
  • Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Registered in Mammography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) within 12 months of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
  • ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire.
