Overview Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team in Kankakee, Illinois. The Mammography Technologist will be responsible for performing mammographic imaging procedures to assist in the early detection and diagnosis of breast conditions. This role requires expertise in operating mammography equipment, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and providing high-quality images for interpretation. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to patient care and a thorough understanding of mammographic techniques. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. Essential Duties Performing Mammographic Imaging: Perform mammography procedures, including screening and diagnostic mammograms, utilizing advanced imaging equipment and techniques. Capture and analyze mammographic images for quality and accuracy, ensuring that all necessary views are obtained and properly documented for radiologist interpretation. Operate and maintain mammography equipment, performing routine checks and preventive maintenance. Report any equipment malfunctions and assist with troubleshooting. Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and yourself. Implement infection control practices to ensure a safe environment. Patient Care: Prepare and position patients for mammographic exams, explaining procedures and addressing any questions or concerns to ensure patient comfort and cooperation. Provide education to patients regarding breast health and mammography procedures, including pre- and post-procedure instructions. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient information, imaging procedures, and equipment usage in compliance with regulatory standards. Collaboration: Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to support diagnostic and treatment decisions. Assist in coordinating follow-up appointments and additional testing as needed. Quality: Participates in the departments Risk Assessment and Screening Program. Participates in departments quality Assessment and continuous quality improvement plan. Conduct daily quality control (QC) checks on equipment and imaging systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Operate and maintain Mammography imaging equipment. Non-essential Duties Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and coordinating patient flow in the imaging department. Responsibilities Preferred Experience Previous experience in mammography is preferred, but new graduates with relevant training will be considered. Strong technical skills in operating mammography equipment. Excellent patient communication, and the ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety. Required Licensure/Education Associates degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field from an accredited program. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with a mammography specialty (ARRT-M) is required. Must obtain mammography certification within 12 months of hire through ARRT. IEMA Certification Required in Radiography Preferred Education Additional certification in breast imaging or mammography is preferred. Employee Health Requirements Exposure to: Chemicals: Mammography technologist will be working with chemicals used with the processing of x-ray film. Video Display Terminals: Average Blood and Body Fluids: Mammography Technologist may be responsible for injection of contrast media as part of their job function. They will assist the Radiologist in interventional procedures and perform other radiographic procedures that may cause contact with body fluids in this modality. TB or Airborne Pathogens: Mammography Technologist will be in direct contact with patients and have potential of normal exposure to airborne pathogens. Sensory requirements (speech, vision, smell, hearing, touch): Speech: Required to communicate with patient regarding education, pre-procedure history information, procedure manipulation, and post- procedure instructions. Vision: Needed to identify, from radiograph, the autonomy and manipulate for correct density and contract levels for the proper filming technique. Constant visual contact with patient to assure proper positioning of patient and for patient safety. Smell: Helpful to note presence of electrical/fire safety. Hearing: Needed for obtaining patient education and understanding of procedure and history information gathering. Touch: Needed for operating computer equipment in key boarding of entry and/or other functions for communication of information necessary for patient care.
