About The Position

The Mammography Tech at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center performs complex tasks associated with mammography, breast biopsy, and other breast imaging procedures. This role involves applying proper ionizing radiation, accurate positioning, compression, and processing techniques to obtain high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by a radiologist. The Mammography Tech is also responsible for maintaining a safe environment at the Breast Center at all times.

Requirements

• Must be registered ARRT (R).
• Must have and maintain ARRT (R) and obtain ARRT (M) within 6 months.
• State licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Performs all duties of Mammography Radiology Technologist.
• Conducts routine screening, diagnostic, and minimally invasive breast imaging procedures.
• Follows Joint Commission procedures regarding medication preparation and usage for minimally invasive breast procedures.
• Obtains and documents pertinent clinical information and technical findings for physician review.
• Follows established processes for supply charging, stock maintenance, and vendor ordering.
• Operates equipment to produce high-quality breast imaging.
• Displays independent work skills by completing physician orders, including patient transport and clerical skills.
• Practices aseptic/sterile technique and applies universal precautions.
• Identifies and screens patients, obtains patient history, and verifies consents.
• Provides patient instructions and education to minimize anxiety during exams.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
• Responds to patients, physicians, and other customer needs in a timely manner.
• Completes required education assignments and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Stays current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and performs BLS as needed.
