About The Position

The Lead Mammography and QC Technologist oversees the daily operations of the mammography imaging department. This role ensures efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care in a professional, team-oriented environment. The Lead Technologist provides leadership, mentorship, and serves as a technical resource for other imaging technologists while maintaining compliance with all FDA, MQSA, and ACR regulations.

Requirements

  • ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist with Mammography Certification.
  • New York State Radiologic License (required).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MQSA, ACR, and FDA standards.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Heartsaver CPR Certification required.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2-3 years of mammography experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing clear instructions to ensure cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  • Verify and document clinical history, ensuring information is accurate and available to licensed practitioners.
  • Position patients and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices for optimal image quality and patient comfort.
  • Explain and apply necessary breast compression and immobilization techniques.
  • Determine and apply appropriate radiographic exposure factors.
  • Apply radiation protection principles to minimize exposure.
  • Evaluate mammograms and other breast images for technical quality and proper identification.
  • Provide the physical and psychological comfort of patients throughout procedures.
  • Verify informed consent and assist practitioners with interventional procedures (biopsies, aspirations, localizations, galactograms).
  • Practice aseptic techniques as required.
  • Perform radiography of pathologic breast specimens.
  • Maintain accurate medical records while observing patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain and document QA/QC procedures for the mammography section.
  • Monitor compliance with all FDA, MQSA, and ACR quality control standards.
  • Assist with accreditations, inspections, and regulatory processes.
  • Implement techniques to reduce artifacts and minimize repeat exposures.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with scheduling, staff assignments, and coverage coordination.
  • Support onboarding, training, and mentoring of new staff.
  • Provide input for performance evaluations.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, service, and functionality of mammography equipment.
  • Coordinate and monitor PACS worklists for accuracy and timely radiologist review.
  • Maintain up-to-date technologist and radiologist credentials and continuing education documentation.
  • Manage inventory and care of mammography-specific items (e.g., compression devices).
  • Assist with special projects and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, supervisors, and other care providers to ensure accurate imaging and reporting.
  • Promote teamwork, effective communication, and a positive work environment.
  • Ensure all team members are treated fairly and equally, promoting a department of respect and professionalism.
  • Participate in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrate strong patient relations and customer service skills.
