About The Position

The position involves performing screening and diagnostic mammograms and bone density testing on physician referred patients according to established clinical protocols and MQSA Quality Guidelines. The role requires delivering patient care in accordance with department/hospital standards, accurately documenting patient images electronically, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The technologist will also be responsible for preparing and processing patient clinical and demographic information, performing mammography equipment quality control, and providing education to patients regarding procedures. This is a part-time position with a PRN schedule across two locations, requiring current BLS Basic Life Support CPR certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA Approved Program in Radiologic Technology.
  • 1 - 2 years experience as Radiologic Technologist or sonographer.
  • 40 hours of specialized training and continuing education in mammography.
  • Knowledge of breast anatomy.
  • Ability to recognize patients experiencing fear or anxiety.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical skills as a radiographer.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist/ARRT.
  • IDNS License.

Responsibilities

  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms and bone density testing on physician referred patients according to established clinical protocols and MQSA Quality Guidelines.
  • Delivers patient care in accordance with department/hospital standards; adapts to customer/department needs.
  • Uses proper telephone scripting at all times.
  • Accurately documents patient images electronically.
  • Positions the breast to obtain the appropriate standard and alternative views.
  • Adjusts positioning and technique for thorough quality exam based on patient's anatomy and condition.
  • Keeps patient informed and encourages patient to ask questions regarding own care.
  • Applies radiation protection to patient in accordance with accepted radiation protection standards for mammography.
  • Documents patient history and other pertinent clinical information in RIS or Penrad computer database.
  • Selects technical factors to ensure appropriate capture of digital images.
  • Prepares and processes patient clinical and demographic information, ensuring accuracy.
  • Secures mammography films performed elsewhere to be sent to the Advocate Condell Breast Imaging Center.
  • Obtains current personal and family history of breast disease using computer databases.
  • Secures patient consent forms as required.
  • Documents the presence of physical lumps or other skin lesions.
  • Prepares mammographic images and ensures adherence to department standards for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Provides pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure education and instruction to the patient.
  • Participates in advanced mammographic procedures such as needle localizations and stereotactic biopsy.
  • Performs mammography equipment quality control and quality assurance tests.
  • Follows Accrediting Organization requirements regarding safety and protection of patients and staff.
  • Maintains positive customer relations and participates in team problem-solving.
