Makeup Model & Product Tester
About The Position
Overlay is building the world’s first intelligent makeup robot—reimagining beauty application through robotics, perception, and design. As a venture-backed, pre-launch startup, we’re defining a new category of personal robotics at the intersection of self-expression and engineering. Our system operates directly on the human face, requiring an unprecedented level of precision, safety, and real-world robustness. We’re a small, highly technical team working in person in Oakland—building something that does not yet exist, and making it real. This role will give you a glimpse inside an early-stage hardware startup. We’re seeking a highly reliable, detail-oriented individual to serve as a makeup model and tester for an innovative robotic makeup application device. This is an in-office, hands-on role working closely with our product and engineering teams during live testing and demonstrations.
Requirements
- Extremely reliable with consistent weekday daytime availability starting at 9AM
- Comfortable with repeated makeup application and removal throughout the day
- Comfortable being on display as a live demonstration model (minimal speaking required)
- Able to sit still for extended periods
- Strong communicator for providing clear, constructive feedback
- Willing to maintain a consistent hairstyle throughout the duration of the contract
Nice To Haves
- Age range: 25–35
- Skin tones within light to tan range (for testing our current foundation colors)
- No facial piercings
- No visible tattoos when wearing a standard t-shirt
- Clear, healthy skin and comfort participating in repeated cosmetic testing
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary model for live makeup application using our robotic device
- Sit for extended periods during testing and demo sessions
- Participate in multiple makeup application/removal cycles per day
- Provide clear, thoughtful feedback on comfort, usability, and results
- Act as a live demonstration model for internal and external presentations
- Help maintain consistency across testing sessions and documentation (including photos/video)
