About The Position

The City of Blair, NE is hiring a Makerspace Assistant to join our Library Department! This part-time, non-exempt position (up to 28 hours per week) plays an important role in supporting the daily operations of the Library Makerspace, assisting patrons and staff with hands-on equipment, and helping deliver fun and engaging makerspace programs. If you enjoy working with technology, learning new tools, and helping people create, we'd love to hear from you!

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and comfort working with patrons of all ages and skill levels.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and obtain certifications for current and future makerspace equipment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with makerspaces, computers, technology, and/or CNC equipment is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations of the Library Makerspace under the direction of the Manager of Library Programming.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to library patrons and staff on makerspace equipment and tools.
  • Ensure safety procedures and best practices are followed at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming makerspace environment.
  • Assist with planning, preparing, and running makerspace programs, workshops, and events.
  • Keep accurate records of makerspace usage, patronage statistics, supplies, and inventory.
  • Communicate with the Manager of Library Programming regarding equipment upkeep, maintenance needs, repairs, low inventory, and improvement ideas.
  • Collaborate with library staff and city employees on makerspace projects that support cross-department initiatives.
  • Perform other library-related duties as assigned.
