About The Position

BPC seeks a dynamic, relationship-driven Major Gifts Officer to join our development team during a pivotal era of growth. As BPC approaches its two-decade milestone, this role will play a central support function in executing a 20th Anniversary Campaign with an aggressive fundraising goal. The Major Gifts Officer will partner closely with the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Vice President (VP) of External Relations to manage high-level donor logistics for the campaign while simultaneously building and managing a personal portfolio of individual prospects. This is a high-visibility role requiring exceptional organizational skills, political savvy, and the ability to translate complex policy into compelling cases for support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of fundraising experience, with a focus on major gifts, individual giving, or capital campaigns, preferably in a non-profit or policy setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful fundraising strategies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects under pressure.
  • Superior writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate dense policy work (e.g., Commission recommendations) into persuasive donor communications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including foundation and family offices, donors, and internal teams. Infrequent travel may be required.
  • Knowledge and experience with fundraising databases (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to BPC’s bipartisan mission and the ability to interact effectively with high-level donors, Board members, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Support: Serve as the primary project manager for the EVP and VP of External Relations regarding campaign activity, ensuring valid prospect pipelines and timely follow-through on solicitations.
  • Strategy & Logistics: Coordinate high-level campaign meetings and "salon dinner" events, managing invitations, logistics, and briefing materials for leadership.
  • Materials Development: Draft executive-level briefing memos, personalized proposals, and campaign impact reports that articulate BPC’s history and future vision.
  • Pipeline Tracking: Maintain the 20th Anniversary revenue pipeline in Salesforce, proactively tracking progress against aggressive fundraising goals and keeping leadership informed of deadlines and renewal opportunities.
  • Solicitation: Manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, guiding them through the cycle of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prospect Research: Conduct research on prospective individual donors to identify alignment with BPC policy areas, including Human Capital, Health, Housing, Economics, and Energy, and Governance.
  • Stewardship: Oversee the creation and execution of stewardship strategies, including impact updates, periodic interactions and outreach, and invitations to exclusive briefings.
  • Campaign Appeals: Assist with drafting and tracking fundraising appeals and campaigns targeting major gifts, ensuring messaging aligns with BPC’s mission and current legislative successes.
  • Other Portfolio Support: Maintain flexibility to support other fundraising portfolios, such as corporate and foundations giving, as organizational needs arise.

Benefits

  • BPC offers comprehensive health insurance benefits with a choice of CareFirst HSA, POS, or PPO plan.
  • Additional benefits include 403(b) matching contributions of up to 7% of salary in addition to a non-elective contribution of 2% of salary (both after 90 days of employment); 15 vacation days, 2 personal days, 15 sick days, and 12 holidays per year; education benefits up to $5,250 per year after one year of employment; $2,000 for professional development expenses after six months of employment; Metro benefits of up to $130 per month; Pet Insurance, Company provided life insurance; and dental and vision insurance coverage with a Flexible Spending Plan.
