About The Position

The Salt Lake Tribune has been Utah's independent voice since 1871. In 2019, we became the first legacy U.S. newspaper to transition to nonprofit status, helping to lead a national movement toward sustainable local journalism. In spring of 2026 we will remove our subscription paywall and move to a voluntary donation-based membership. To support this shift, we are expanding our development team. The Major Gifts Coordinator is a new position on our development team. You will support all aspects of non-profit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts and grants. This role will support major donor stewardship and cultivation, assist in grant writing, manage donor data integrity, and lead coordination of our annual NewsMakers Awards & Dinner event. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, organized professional who is passionate about community impact and the future of independent journalism.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Excel
  • Comfortable attending events and speaking with donors/prospects
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency with airtable (or comparable software)
  • Experience with campaign/project management
  • Marketing and presentation skills (deck creation, donor communications)
  • Experience with grants or nonprofit fundraising

Responsibilities

  • Major Donor Prospecting & Stewardship
  • Project management of major donor workflows, including list creation, deadlines, and print/mail coordination
  • Assist the Chief Development Officer develop and manage stewardship plans
  • Respond to donor inquiries promptly and professionally
  • Assist in writing pitches and reports
  • Database & Grants
  • Manage the major donor database, including entering donor data in an accurate and timely manner, updating donor data as appropriate, and maintaining confidentiality of donor information at all times
  • Research grant opportunities, help to maintain the grant calendar, and assist with grant writing and reporting
  • Support departmental project management, including required weekly and monthly reporting
  • Events
  • Under direction of the Chief Development Officer, lead coordination of the annual NewsMakers Awards and Dinner, including managing RSVP lists, arranging catering and other vendor services, and coordinating staff volunteers
  • Help plan and execute development events - occasional nights/weekends required
